re: Are a lot of these "investments" in the U.S. that Trump brags about just BS?

Yeah I worked on a portion of the Corpus area plant and am aware of the Point Comfort plant that's planned.

Obviously neither of those things has anything to do with anything recently though.

Cheap energy? You mean coal? Nuclear? Oil by the barrel. Oil prices have been where we need them for like 4 years. I get if you drive a gas guzzler a hour or so a day, gas is never cheap enough. For the economy at large $70 per barrel is just a bit south of the sweet spot.

To be fair I'm also saying that the other parties are in on the bullshite if not more responsible for it.

I think the take away is when you hear people say the tariffs are working because of all these investment commitments just realize that it likely has nothing to do with tariffs or policy and a lot of it will never materialize at all.

Sorry, I didn't mean to derail your thread. It's just really hard for me to take anything that WWE hawker has to say.

I get it, yeah, others could be blowing smoke up Trump's arse, but he's such a smoke-blower himself, I can't believe he's not in on it in an attempt to throw more red meat at his base. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he didn't exactly know that they couldn't deliver on their promises of investment, but I don't think he really cares. They're saying the right things to let him say the things he wants to project to his base.

Ultimately, it's all just marketing with no actual substance.

Depends on who the next president is, a dem will certainly reverse course. JD will probably continue to push America 1st.

Paper is cheap as is ink.

Japan and Germany have been invested in the US for at least 30 years and have been building manufacturing plants here for that long. What, Trump is gonna go to Canton, MS and take credit for the 20+ year old Nissan investment there? Wait, maybe he can go to Tupelo and take credit for the 10+ year old plant there.....wait there's another plant for Hyundai in Alabama......

He could take credit for Airbus.....oh, wait......

Has it ever occurred to you that countries would rather team up with the United States instead of having to rely on China? These companies wanting to do business in the USA is one big gigantic frick you to China

Do I think all of this is bad? No. I think things are generally good. But you'd have to be the dumbest person ever to believe the dollar amount investments that these countries and companies claim to be investing. This is just more about getting in good favor with the current administration and most of it is just a complete dog and pony show.

And as soon as they don't have to do it anymore (i.e. new President R or D), they just take their money back out.

With our regulatory and wage issues, there has to be alternatives to American products.

Of course

But I think that's the point. It's not even likely to be half.

Trump tells us that he wants to restore critical manufacturing to U.S. because global supply chains are risky at times and foreigners screw us on trade.

And poster tells us global suppliers, manufacturers and countries can't be trusted because they aren't living up to agreements.

Sounds to me like poster thinks Trump is right to reshore and fight for better trade deals.

The most amazing part is that actual grown ups believe him.

If I am wrong about Trump I will say so. I don't think I am.

Will you?
