A federal appeals court is affirming a five-year prison sentence for Charles Littlejohn, a consultant to the IRS who leaked President Trump’s tax return information to the New York Times and tax information about thousands of the richest Americans including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Warren Buffett to ProPublica.

The 16-page opinion by a three-judge panel—Justin Walker, Neomi Rao, and Judith Rogers—found that the sentence was reasonable. It offers a scathing narrative of Littlejohn’s behavior. At this writing, the decision hasn’t been reported in either the New York Times or ProPublica, which describes itself as "a nonprofit, investigative newsroom that exposes corruption."

I don't understand how this can have a max prison sentence of 5 years. It's time to revisit sentence length. This should be 10-20 years easily.

While I agree in principle - in this age of no accountability I’m surprised he got anything.

When are we gonna find out the leaker of the US Supreme Court opinion overturning abortion? They need to do time too. Just saying.

Sentencing guidelines calls for max of 5 years. It should be more, but there is no designation for whose tax returns it was.

Under 26 U.S. Code § 7213, willfully disclosing a taxpayer’s return or return information without authorization is a felony. The statutory maximum penalty is up to 5 years in federal prison, a fine of up to $5,000 (or up to $250,000 under general federal sentencing provisions), and the costs of prosecution.

Remember how they cried about his tax returns for literally years... Then they were published and there was NOTHING. The story died forever over night.

TDS MSNBC figs swore they would incriminate Trump and prove money laundering etc.

The only returns mentioned are for Trump. For the others it says "tax information" which may be something else.

The people crying about Trump's taxes didnt even know what they were looking for. Even if Trump was doing something illegal, its not like it would have be listed in his tax returns like "Russian Bribes: $10,000,000". The mainstream media just wanted to run hit pieces about all the tax breaks Trump was getting and brand him as not paying his "fair share". Anyone who thought the tax returns could be hiding evidence of illegal activities doesn't understand how taxes work.
