Apparently the movies is based on a true story.

quote:

Barry Seal, a TWA pilot, is recruited by the CIA to provide reconnaissance on the burgeoning communist threat in Central America and soon finds himself in charge of one of the biggest covert CIA operations in the history of the United States. The operation spawns the birth of the Medellin cartel and almost brings down the Reagan White House.

What's so revealing is how the day to day CIA operations folks can simply set things in motion given their resources.

I thought it was a pretty good movie. I don't know how accurate it was in terms of documenting history however the movie did not seem to have a liberal slant (which I was totally expecting).

Having read the story of Seal, I wasn't impressed.

The Bush, Clinton ties were intentionally left out.

Every Barry Seal thread on the O-T is interesting as there are usually dozens of stories from people whose family members came in contact with him.

It was amazing what you could get away with in terms of handling cash back in the late '70s early '80s before computers were prevalent and banking rules were much different.

Yeah I washed his plane a few times as a kid.
Big tipper. Nice guy. Every private pilot in BR knew him or knew of him.

I found the movie to be highly entertaining.

Don't understand why they showed him being gunned down in Arkansas rather than Baton Rouge though.

Did they cover the part where they were running the operation through Arkansas with the knowledge of Bill Clinton?

Good movie. And it is true. But there are books relating to the shady operation in Mena which are perhaps a lot more accurate and revealing.

The liberal slant came when the movies title which was originally called "Mena" was changed to American Made to shield Hillary Clinton from being associated with drug running into Arkansas when Bill Clinton was Governor.

Not overtly. You would have to infer that Bill knew because the Attorney General of Arkansas got a call from Bill and subsequently allowed Seal to go after being arrested by every alphabet agency in the federal and Arkansas state governments.

That was a great scene. "You boys like Cadillacs?"

What pisses me off is the fact that the CIA can move their chess pieces on the board (that actually affect real human lives) and when things turn out bad there are ZERO consequences.

The same thing is happening now with the FBI and the several o the IC departments concerning the MUH Russians investigation.
