Giving that some serious thought today, and I don't like my conclusions.

Another good barometer would be how the Senate vote went on the stimulus package

If there isn't one no vote on a spending bill that huge then you know everyone is taking it seriously

On the left you have mass hysteria and finger pointing and on the right you have complete delusion about how serious the situation is even though almost all elected republicans are taking the matter very seriously

Amen. Not sure why it’s so hard for people to be objective about it.

It’s always finger pointing and taking sides. It’s really exasperating.

Hacks are going to hack and some people choose odd hills to die on

I can't believe there were still people earlier this evening trying to make the H1N1 comparison when the trends show this to be potentially much much worse

Brings up another political schism into who is actually taking this seriously. The House Democrats were throwing funding for abortion, raises for the House, company diversity BS, and voter fraud loopholes into a CV stimulus bill while people are losing their jobs and worried about their next paycheck.

Again...

Who's taking this seriously?

I'm farther right than most of this board, but I cannot say that this is overblown or the correct amount.

I guess I'm pretty middle of the road politically and I agree. I'm smart enough to know that I don't really know how all this plays out. My concern is things will settle down in the next month and the virus will lay low over the summer. Then when it inevitably comes back in the fall no one will want to shut down again and that's when we will see the worst of it.

I agree it's all stupid and them taking advantage of the situation

But my point is no one in the senate things this outbreak is some sort of nothingburger

All I see from team Trump (not Trump himself but his supporters) is a blind eye to how bad this could potentially be
This is not true. You can see Trump supporters all over this board who take it seriously. Some even catastrophize about it.

Umm. You realize that the stimulus package is due to the unprecedented forces shutdown, right? That doesn’t preclude the shutdown being an overreaction.

I've thought about that too. Is it possible for a vaccine to be ready by then? With rapid testing becoming available we may be able to manage hotspots better by then rather than shutter the entire economy.

Right. There are a few stragglers. I'd imagine it won't take much longer for them to change their tune though.

Fair enough

I'd imagine that just about everyone in the senate doesn't think these shut downs are an over reaction

And as I stated earlier these shut downs have bipartisan support at the state and local levels. It's not just democrats shutting things down.

I agree with the Senate. They did their job. Their job (and the House Reps working on the Plan) was done Sunday evening until Pelosi showed up.

The House on Monday (led by Pelosi) is a completely different story. They aren't taking it seriously if they are willing to delay a stimulus package so they can insert their pet pork products (that have nothing to do with CV) while people suffer.

*by House Reps I do mean Representatives, not just Republicans. At that point it was a truly bipartisan effort. Nancy's delay cost us 5 days.
