If you and your wife commit a crime, then you go to jail. Your family is separated. Why should that risk apply to me if I commit crimes but not illegals?

This has a very simple solution.
The law should either get rid of birthright citizenship or redefine the rule. 5 year grace period from the birth of a child until citizenship is bestowed. (Someone more legal savvy can create an appropriate context).

It's not that I don't 'care' about the 'children' or 'the families'. Who could be 'against any of that? Reminds me of the old campaign saw of being 'against crime' - like there would be anybody 'for' crime.
I don't want open borders.
All of the hogwash about 'the children', 'the famalies', or whatever the Bible has to say is just deflection away from the Far Left's base motive, which is to open the borders. (Or, additionally, to impede everything that is POTUSDJT - or even America itself).

I have some sympathy and think it would be good if we could reunite the families as we send them both back to the other side of the border
I'm more concerned with the prison system in the U.S. that has the same effect of separating families

I don’t give a frick in the sense that I have my own shite to deal with and I’m not going to do anything about it, however, I don’t see the point or need to unnecessarily traumatize children.

It's not that I don't give a frick.
But there are a few realities in this world:
1. America cannot take in every single unskilled dirt poor immigrant from every single poor country in the world and just have them live here. That's not how the world works.
2. As a parent, it's heartbreaking to think about the realities these families face. But as an American we need stronger border security and we need to change our immigration and citizenship laws.
3. The solution to this problem is for those people or go home and fight everyday to make their communities and countries better and hopefully one generation will succeed. I'm sorry that your country sucks. Go try and make it better.
I mean how many able bodied immigrants have we arrested? You could form an army out of those people and go overtake a small central American country and then have at it. Make your own society and improve it.

3. What if they tried that? What if they watched generation after generation of their family not see any difference or they were killed for trying. Would you just form an Army and overtake your government when you had a family? That’s easy to say but hard to do. Especially if you have little to no resources. Would you help them in their cause if it kept them in their own country? This is a last ditch effort for these people. They just want a better life. The same way we go to work everyday. They are trying to do something to make their life better. I have empathy for that but also realize it is so very complicated. We can’t have them sucking up all our resources and we have to be able to distinguish between good families and criminals. I worry that cruel treatment will produce a bunch of people with hatred for us and that leads to terrorism.
It does disgust me though that this is all being used as a ploy to get the wall. That’s blatantly obvious.
