k. Fact remains. He said he couldn’t get an ein. It took me 3 minutes. Keep arguing which poster he was citing as support to get after me for calling him out. That is really the important thing. Sad.

I don't know what is specific to his type of business that might prohibit him from obtaining an ein while you have no problem. But it does appear that it's possible that both of you are being honest here.

Nowhere in that article (written Jan 8) did it say the ein system was down. It was something they hypothesized could be a problem. Probably what the OP did.
You will not find a single site on the internet saying the EIN system is down. Because it isn’t. I got one in 3 minutes. I challenged you to find something saying otherwise. You could not. You may now apologize for saying I lied.

Update as of today:
Multiple attempts daily since last week to get an EIN online have failed - including this AM. To be safe, I sent a fax to the IRS (supposed to take 4 days), but it did not go through. A call to the IRS help desk resulted in not being able to get anyone on the phone.
Obviously, TTB still closed. (Yet I'm sure they're racing around in the background, unpaid, to make sure the massive built up queue of items for them to address doesn't slip EVEN ONE SECOND.)

Yes. I stopped exporting fricks. I won't give a frick either. It has to be bought or earned. This shutdown sucks...kind of like the domestic bidness the wife hooks me up with. On that front, bidness is a blasting off!!!
