All I meant there is what many say: To a significant extent, Russia was provoked into this by our pushing NATO expansion to their doorstep.

What does "trust" have to do with it? Big voices in this have said for decades that NATO expansion, ESPECIALLY to countries that used to be part of the USSR (much less historical Russia) was playing with fire.
Adding the Baltics is one thing. Ukraine and Georgia? COMPLETELY different context.
