re: Another example of the problem with policing in America

Is giving the police a free pass not blanket hating them and dealing in absolutes? I’d rather judge the individual who does wrong than generalize but that’s just me

We have way too many damn cops in this country. We could be equally as safe/unsafe if we eliminated 3/4 of the total law enforcement jobs.

It's not a matter of blanket hating them. There are plenty of decent cops and frankly most of the time when liberals are crying about cops I end up siding with the cops. But at the end of the day the cops are not there as your friends and I don't know why we've told ourselves that big lie. And at the end of the day they are an arm of the government. If you're ever going to get fricked over by your government the people going to do the fricking will be wearing blue. And they tend to behave just like the government. If they frick up they are absolutely going to lie 100% of the time without fail. They will happily see you in jail before they tell the truth. There are virtually zero exceptions to that rule

The sad part is it's not so much that we have too many is that they are horribly misdistributed. We tend to have shortages in places that are high crime. Then we have a bunch of fricking small towns that are nothing more than God damn gangsters Road Pirates masquerading as police.
On top of that the allocation level between real crime and fricking with people on the road is so grossly out of whack it's not even funny. I'm like God damn it hire a few more Detectives and stop trying to steal from people using civil asset forfeiture among other things

Not all of them but yes, police and teachers. The pay should be higher but so should the expectations. Get the right people in and train them properly. If they can't hack it GTFO and do something else. We apparently have money to send all over the world but not enough to legitimately better law enforcement and our schools.

The people that are fricking you are the trash that you elect to represent you who make laws and policy. Somehow they always get a pass in these discussions. Meanwhile you’re again making a generalization about all police in the US while calling yourself a conservative. Liberals deal in emotional thinking and generalizations. Conservatives deal in logic and judging the individual by their actions

Qualified immunity and police unions pose a huge problem for the US. Police officers should be responsible for their actions and personally liable for their actions not just the towns that train them. They'd be a lot more careful about who and how they engage with this level of hostility.

People look at police as the hard working neighbor, or friend… and that may often be true… but people somehow forget that when they strap on that badge, they are the government with a gun that gets pointed at American citizens… that’s you and me. THEIR safety comes FIRST if you are paying attention. Those that put public safety ahead of their own are more heroic than we give them credit for… because OUR government doesn’t require or encourage it.

Depends on the subject as far as who is using emotions to persuade

Those are most certainly problems that need to be solved. However. The fact that even when you get past the qualified immunity committing a straight-up felony as a police officer doesn't get you in any real trouble. Lying on a police report that lands somebody in jails for days weeks or even months is viewed as some sort of violation of policy. Your average E2 in the military gets in more trouble for showing up late to work too often than a cop does for committing a felony on the job

And they openly tell you their safety comes first. They train each other that their safety comes first. If it comes down to between accidentally killing you when you didn't have it coming or maybe pausing and dealing with their fear for a minute you're a dead motherfricker

Which is precisely what I'm doing. You know what pattern emerges the moment you start watching police videos of bad cops? The fact that every fricking last one of the videos has a supposedly good cop watching it happen. The fact that in pretty much every case where the video comes out late the cops lie their fricking asses off. The fact that when they investigate each other internally they almost always give themselves a pass even in cases that your average fricking 5-year-old could figure out was bullshite. If they think it helps body camera footage materializes inside of 5 Seconds but if the body camera footage is a problem it's a goddamn fight to the death to get them to release it.
It's never the bad apples in the video that pissed me off. Every organization has bad apples. It's the fact that police defend their bad apples to the goddamn death

Chief ought to lose everything he has in the world. Time to teach lessons to these types of cops.

It's completely crazy. You have video of the man straight up committing a felony. Video that would have you me or anybody else in jail right now this evening no questions asked.
There is no valid reason why being a police officer somehow gets you out of that
