The real scandal is how all these idiots walk away with degrees from these schools.
College is a joke, money making scam.

I was surprised to see that Hogg scored 1270. Honestly, it is not a particularly impressive score, bit it IS above the 80th percentile. Take 5 randomly-selected college students, and statistically he is probably the brightest (as measured by SAT).
Judging only from his public appearances, I would have guessed that he fell in the low-middle.
I was also a bit surprised that Harvard’s mean numbers are as high as they are. Given the percentage of legacy-types in each class, I would have expected them to have served as a downward anchor upon the mean score. It would be interesting to see a scatter-graph, rather than just the averages. I suspect that we would see a big cluster above 1500, then a gap below that, and another cluster 300-400 points lower.

This scandal is the best thing to happen since Trump got elected.
It is gold, Jerry! GOLD!

Ouch.
His SATs are smack in the middle of their “average” acceptance profile so his grades or extracurriculars must have been godawful.

Care to comment on the 1270 SAT getting into Harvard?

I don’t think anyone was bribed in his case. Harvard just wants to be in the middle of a cultural dynamic.

I don't think anyone is surprised to learn he probably got in based on his extra curricular activity.
Harvard wants publicity and a student activist the whole country knows is pretty good publicity.
Exactly.
Unqualified folks get in all the time because of some horseshite belief they'll add something to the student body. That's not the least bit surprising.
Bribing someone and falsifying athlete recruiting profiles is another story altogether.

What is a better look for Harvard? Being bribed to take this media whore who couldn’t get into Central Florida or taking him as a political favor?
Both look pretty bad.

It was neither. Harvard is one of many schools who pluck completely undeserving candidates to join the ranks because of what they stupidly believe he/she brings to the table. It's not some grand conspiracy, it's just college admissions ineptitude.

Have they dumbed down the SAT? I remember when I was a kid there would only be a handful of kids that scored a perfect 1600 in the entire country.
I just read that 3/4 of Caltech class received a perfect score...

Is his 1270 out of 1600 or 2400? Didn't the SAT change it's scoring a while back?
Isnt UCF tbe school in FL with ~65,000 students? How hard can it be to get into that place? A 1270 out of 1600 sounds like it ought to do the trick.

I think they scrapped the essay portion so they are back at being a 1600 scale instead of 2400.

I think I remember reading that UCF was the only school he got into. He had applied to Florida, Texas, Cal - those type schools and was denied.
