Largest military and economy and our primary language is the language of international business, so most powerful is objective fact.
Greatest is a matter of taste.
Greatest is a matter of taste.

What would make China comparable? Size and money? Wouldn't our military still be greater?
China will never match us until they can match our force projection...and that's a long, long time coming.

Is this something we simply tell ourselves or is it the global consensus?
Both are true, but neither can be taken for granted.

As originally envisioned, America is the greatest idea for a country ever conceived.
How's that.
On Transparency International's Corruption Perception Index, we are tied with Belgium and Austria for 16th in the world.
We trail New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Switzerland, Singapore, Sweden, Canada, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, the UK (although I expect their ranking to drop dramatically over the next few years given all the scandals coming to light there), Germany, Australia, Hong Kong, and Iceland.
Things like this substantiate it:
LINK
As far as powerful, we are still the most powerful military on the planet. China has dramatically closed the gap within the past two decades while we've suffered through the trade deficits that allowed it to happen and run up a national debt:GDP ratio that is tracking towards Greece levels. Furthermore, having a powerful military doesn't mean much if you don't have the willpower to use it wisely.
We have a great deal of work to MAGA.

"point of view variable" question.

Put it this way...
If every country in the world were to attack us at once from sea....our NAVY could not only defend us...but push back and counter strike them all.

The U.S. spends close to what the entire rest of the world spends in defense. $711 billion. Per year. The next closest is China at $143 billion.
The M1 Abrams tank has seen more combat than just about any other tank on the battlefield today. It has never been knocked out by enemy fire. (Completely killed). Ever.
China has less than 500 Type 99 tanks, that have just been developed, and are not even close to being as good as the Abrams. We have 8,700 Abrams.
We have 10 aircraft carriers. The good kind. Everyone else has 10. Combined. And they are mostly small ships that can launch helicopters.
There are 8,400 attack helicopters in the world. The U.S. has 6,400 of them.
