The rise of Walmart occurred when the word “monopoly” to me referred to a board game.

Amazon isn't, Google is. Amazon can only set the prices to the point competitors can enter the market, a plus for consumers. Google can control if you're able to see competitors pricing. Google is much, much more dangerous.

Agree. I won’t buy any google shite.

Google's products are pretty awesome. Chromecast, Nest thermostat, Nest cameras, and Google's WiFi/mesh network are all great products. I'm thinking about getting a Google Home speaker thing for Christmas.

I don’t think you have any idea what a monopoly is.

When 40% of the city is foriegn born, who is a New Yorker anyway?

Besides, Long Island City was almost done with gentrification before Amazon made their announcement. Now Greenpoint, Sunnyside, and Astoria landowners property values just skyrocketed. How is that a baf thing? Not to mention Google has a big presence in NYC already, so Amazon will have to compete for top talent.

You've displayed a surprising level of ignorance in this thread then mr badass

Breaking up so-called monopolies is another way of saying "You were too smart and ambitious, so now we're penalizing you to let the knuckle-draggers catch up."

But if we break them up then all corporations will stay out of queens and ensure it stays poor and irrelevant? That's what you want?

You're right in saying this because capitalism only works well when competition is maximized, When it exists with market conditions reselling oligopoly or monopoly it becomes an entity that does not maximize value delivered to shareholders, consumers, or workers because all three of these groups are restricted on where they can invest, shop, or work respectively.

So yes, both Amazon and Google need to be broken up...Google first.
