If you are lgbt in 2018 America, there is no reason to hide or deny anything. Unless you're running on the Republican ticket in many areas of the country.

Any woman seeking power is going to have the "rumor of lesbianism" follow her. Small-minded people grasp at small issues.

No one gives a frick about sexual orientation unless you make it part of your identity. The moment that your love of fellatio becomes integral to your persona, then Bart from Hayden becomes disgusted.

Last polls I saw had Ivey in the mid 40s, Battle just over 10 and undecided in the 30s

I agree with a lot of this. But that's not true with the hardcore southern evangelical base. And you know that. Maybe it's not a big deal with our generation, but it most definitely is with the older conservative base.

Should any one be called out for their sexual preference?

Do public officials have a right to privacy in their personal lives?

She's actually done a decent job.

I don't care if she's a rug muncher as long as she's not out promoting it.

And those rumors likely triple if they look like a truck driver.

Just to be clear, because your statement isn't - are you for or against outing people in 2018?

Alabama Voters love incumbents. If Ivey was Lt. Gov running for Gov, it would be a much closer race. She's coasting on the fact that she simply hasn't screwed up...other than calling for the Special Election which gave Alabama a Democratic Senator.

I'm still surprised Battle is so low. I figured he'd at least put up some fight.

Of course not.

IN theory, yes. Unfortunately, that's not how it works in American politics.

I think the recent senatorial election shows that a new paradigm has arrived in Alabama.

Most of the old folks I know (especially my neighbor, an absolutely wonderful man who regales me with Korean War stories) have moved beyond any kind of orientation prejucide. They realize that elected officials are selected for policy, not character.

Ivey has done nothing other than advertise based on personality and name recognition. Literally none of her ads proscribe any kind of policy. It's fricking infuriating. Alabama is not doing well because of our state government, but because of national economic conditions. We could be doing even better! frick.

Color me shocked that a race for a political office is going to be dominated by shite like sexual orientation instead of any platform at all.

I think you're right. It's be interesting to see how this political ploy plays out.

That's my thoughts as well. The lesbian stuff is fair game IMO. She's avoided debates and is coasting on her unearned incumbency. She isn't doing anything to actually earn the office.

For years, people in Montgomery have been saying she's gay. Then she turns around and runs those God-Awful ads about "Alabama Values." She made herself vulnerable to this. No doubt this would eventually come to the surface. The Scott Dawson PC today made me think it was coming.

What's your ticket beyond the gubernatorial look like? I'm a fan of Alice Martin for AG, I don't know enough beyond that. I know I said my friend works for Ainsworth but I don't know enough about him to give a confident vote.
