AI Algorithm can detect race from X-Ray

Now we have racist algorithms? I thought Harvard folks were supposed to be smart. I guess I have racist eyeballs because they can detect color.
AI can tell your race from X-Rays
"We need to take a pause,'' Leo Anthony Celi, MD, a coauthor and professor at Harvard Medical School told the Globe. "We cannot rush bringing the algorithms to hospitals and clinics until we’re sure they’re not making racist decisions or sexist decisions."

But can it tell which race I identify as?

Disregard this science, but trust the rest

The "It's what's inside that counts." discussion just got awkward.
What do you think the final solution will be?

Who cares if AI becomes self aware and destroys all humans on Earth, the real problem we have to be concerned with is if the AI is racist.

Oh FFS. Racist computers. Who had that in the office pool as being the next racist thing?

Can it guess and make up genders though?

Racist computers.
This would actually be a legitimate concern if we turned decision making over to a computer. Not because the AI is racist but because the algorithms are able to be manipulated. They are setting up the case right now to bias our medical system toward better treatment for blacks.

I'm thinking the admitting form that includes your race must be racist too. Anything that identifies race must be inherintly racist is my take away from Harvard dude.

Does AI recognize me by what type of boner I have?

IF the AI is attached to the appropriate microscope, I would say yes.

Too much money and power tied up in the hustle.

For goodness sake, if it works it works. Ie...able to tell stuff about someone like that show Bones where they could look at the skeleton and can determine all kinds of things. I thought that was cool. I would go thru an x-ray machine that told me stuff like that. I thought it was cool how they could test peoples teeth, and determine where they were from.
Now if the computer shoots out a pic of a monkey then yeah that would be concerning.
Can't stand people that keep worrying about racism and sexism, if they had no intention of it. IMO companies that are going hard core with all this stuff are just saying they are guilty of such biases naturally.

That is the semantic definition of a racist. Of course, eliminating that, Dems would have to run on their policies.

Being a non medical guy - I think it's idiotic for them to speculate the x-ray can detect melanin. It's as if you were wearing clothes during the x ray and it could tell if you were wearing a plaid or print shirt - impossible.
I would imagine, once they look into it - one race probably has a different bone density for a given sex and age. That's the kind of things x-rays CAN detect.

Being able to identify a fish from a kitten is not species-ism, it's a common sense observation. The same for race. Here's what Oxford's Dictionary says. I doubt the Artificle Intelligence is making this type of subjective evaluation.

the belief that different races possess distinct characteristics, abilities, or qualities, especially so as to distinguish them as inferior or superior to one another.

Except for admissions applications of course.
