That will teach you commoners and peasants. And for every show of defiance, she promises to reply with another further extension.
From The Hill:
Meanwhile Detroit Mayor begs Governor Half Whit to open the hospitals.
From The Detroit Free Press:
Michigan United For Liberty protestor:
From The Hill:
quote:
Whitmer signs executive order extending Michigan state of emergency to end of May
quote:
"COVID-19 is an enemy that has taken the lives of more Michiganders than we lost during the Vietnam War," Whitmer said in a statement.
quote:
"While some members of the legislature might believe this crisis is over, common sense and all of the science tells us we're not out of the woods yet," she added.
quote:
Whitmer called the protest a "political rally" that could lead to more infections, and subsequently a longer stay-at-home order.
quote:
Lawmakers in the Republican-controlled state legislature have said they are planning to sue Whitmer over her exercise of state emergency powers during the coronavirus pandemic, according to the Detroit Free Press. The legislature failed to approve Whitmer's order to extend the declaration, leading her to pass it via an executive order.
quote:
In a one-month period, 1.2 million people in the state have filed unemployment claims, accounting for nearly a fourth of the state's workforce.
Meanwhile Detroit Mayor begs Governor Half Whit to open the hospitals.
From The Detroit Free Press:
quote:
"The one thing I’m really calling on our governor and our hospitals and our doctors to work on is opening up the rest of the medical system," Duggan said. "Having 700 empty beds is something we never saw in this city in a normal year."
quote:
"We have people in Detroit today who are not getting their sickle cell treatment. We’ve got people who are not going in to the doctor to take care of their diabetes. We have people with heart issues who have not gone in for angioplasty. We have people who have been told ‘You’ve got a lump' and they haven’t gone in to get a biopsy for their cancer.”
Michigan United For Liberty protestor:
quote:
"We believe that every American and every Michigander has the right to work to support our families, to travel freely, to gather for religious worship and for other purposes, to gather in protest of our government and to direct our own medical care."

She just had a judge back her play, didn't she?

I’m starting to think that this woman is mentally ill.

She’s just using this publicity to advance her political career.
Probably won’t work out for her like she thinks it will. She’s a fricking moron.

Somehow, someway it wouldn't surprise me if JBE did the same as well here in Louisiana.
If he's stupid/arrogant enough to do that, he deserves all the backlash he gets.
Our hospitals are not going to be overwhelmed which was the point of the shutdown order and that shutdown order was to prevent that overwhelming. Thus its not needed anymore.

I’ve said it from the start, she’s nuts... she has crazy eyes and looks like a trophy wife that always gets her way.

She had destroyed her political career. She just doesn't know it.

I read somewhere that her approval in the state is very high, in the 70’s

Well it damn sure wasn’t a first place trophy.

Yet another reason as to why women should never, ever be allowed to hold a position of power.

Every time she does this the state goes more for Trump in 2020 so let her do her thang.

Correct.
quote:
“Our fellow residents have an interest to remain unharmed by a highly communicable and deadly virus,” Murray wrote in his opinion. “And since the state entered the Union in 1837, it has had the broad power to act for the public health of the entire state when faced with a public crisis.”
There may be a couple of interesting wrinkles, however. Specifically, first, while the State does have the power, for how long may it continue to be extended? And, secondly, what if the order does not have the approval of the legislative process that the judge himself suggested:
quote:
“Instead, it is the role of the executive and legislative branches to determine what steps are necessary when faced with a public health crisis.”
Who knows for sure. It would be interesting to see what would happen if the legislature passed an act ending the declaration and placing it in direct conflict with the governor. However, I don’t see that happening and I don’t think even this governor has the arrogance to push this past May.

She’d better have round-the-clock state police protection, because that was a nasty scene at their state house yesterday. People can see that she’s just being spiteful at this point and they’re fed up with it.

Not sure but probably just very arrogant and power hungry.
She was in the legislature until she was forced out because of term limits. Then she ran for Governor. She’s been in politics since her 20s and she’s 49 now.

Not sure if I would say she is destroying her career. She would definitely love to be Biden’s VP and her authoritarianism and combativeness are really burnishing her credentials and appeal with those whose approval she needs: the prog base of the Democrats.

Geez Louise. One of THOSE. Addicted to running for office.
After her term is up she’ll be running for something else. It’s like a drug to some of these characters.

Just trying to follow in her idol Nancy's footsteps. She has the arrogance down for sure.
