Actually it accomplished exactly what it was supposed to. JFK finally realized that the US-backed dictator in Vietnam was killing buddhists on the down low, and we pulled support. He was killed by his own men shortly thereafter.

Ngo Dinh Diem was holding elections where he was getting 98% of the vote. The South Vietnamese hated that man. I would argue JFK’s decision to pull support contributed to his assassination. The CIA and MIC knew they could get what they wanted with LBJ in the White House.

Depending on who he votes for he may or may not be hit for destruction of gov property and dishonorably discharged. Again completely depending on who he votes for.

It’s up to the commander and if this airman lives, it’s likely he won’t be punished to the fullest extent, but might receive a general discharge.
The real key is the commander finding this action to be outside of the line of duty and refusing government/tricare coverage for his injuries/treatment, but I’ve yet to see that happen in cases that obviously called for it.

I applaud the guy. He’s obviously mentally unwell.
He could have mowed down all of his fellow service men on his way out. Instead - he only took himself out. And he didn’t take the easy road either.
If he’s watching from the afterworld - he’s gonna really be upset when he realizes his stunt didn’t change a thing and it was all for nothing.

Why should taxpayers be on the hook for his stupidity? This didn’t happen in the line of duty or training. They should send his burnt crispies to a charity hospital and pray he gets decent doctors.
