Well, your mistake was trying to have a rational discussion with liberals. That's just not possible.

To be fair, this often isn't limited to liberals.

Just as I thought. Liberals misunderstand us. Sure there are good ole boys and lots of black too that will say mean things about gays but if you really get down to it with them they really don't care save for the most religious right and the most bigoted.

Most of us just don't care any longer. It's time to move on.

I think a lot of people on both sides of the fence are heading down the path of Socially Liberal and Fiscally Conservative.

Which Trump seems to be. If people would stop listening to the media and give him a chance I think they'd be surprised.

I found myself nodding my head through his first 100 day plan. I was NEVER going to vote hillary, but to be honest I didn't really give Trump a chance because I didn't think he had a huge chance of winning. I wasn't completely shocked he won due to expected backlash against these liberal snowflakes, but I didn't think he'd get enough of the EC to take it.

I am against it being called marriage. Call it whatever you want but not that. Marriage is a religious term. I also think its not the government's job to get involved. the only thing a couple should do with government is sign a contract dictating finical and custody terms if relationship is dissolved. Would free up family courts

Trump doesn't even care. I mean he has a personal opinion on it, but he doesn't even have it as an issue on his website. Therefore, he hates gays.

wtf difference does it make what you call it? Calling it something different doesn't make it something different.

It's called "Compromise". The religious obviously have a problem with it being called marriage.

At this point, you have a choice. Fight htem tooth and nail, delay meaningful change (which is what happened.)

Or recognize that they simply want to be respected as well. Call it something else, and allow everyone to come away from the table having won.

We recognize Hindu, Buddhist, whatever you can think of marriages.

Those were not covenants made on my God's terms... how is this different?

This. I fully agree but understand why they wanted to use the word marriage too.

Why, because some have convinced themselves that they own a word?

At the end of the day, it's not really.

The problem was the sides were very far apart and no compromise was tolerable.

The meeting in the middle was "civil unions". That didn't happen and I understand why.

This works both ways. If it's "Just a word" then why are gays fighting so hard to be labeled this way?

It's ultimately stupid and delays meaningful change for their cause.

Because the other side wouldn't have fought as long and as hard IMO. Compromise. Again, I get why there was no compromise from gays on this word.

Of course, and at the end of the day, how about we all go with a "you do you" approach and move on to more important shite.

Which is why I stated that compromise was what was needed in these situations..

I'm not sure if you were against my original point or not.

I think that's the point of this thread. We are admitting that it's over for most of us.

WE are just talking about how that change could have happened sooner.

Trump said that he had no problem with it, but thought that the SCOTUS overruling state law was overreach. He said he respects the high court and will respect their decision, and that messing with SCOTUS decisions like this and Roe v Wade is reckless and will not do anything to strengthen America and her economy.

Yet some are still claiming marriage is owned by religion...
