As long as you aren’t wanting to put your nonsense in schools or teaching your children your rubbish I don’t care what you believe.

I can teach my children whatever I please and you can't do a thing about it.

Just a bunch of mean old Christians in here.

I'm not the one melting because someone was mean to me.

That was you. Whining because someone called you an idiot. It can't have been a first for you.

So you understand now, right?

Too many are still shy about mocking you publicly.

I'd continue to do just that. Mock you publicly and relentlessly.

I brought this up earlier, but no one really addressed it.

Can someone tell my why, I mean REALLY why, there is conflict between evolution and creation?

It isn't as if it would be unimpressive if an all powerful being.........knowing how things would turn out.......constructed a universe in the way that scientists generally observe it to have occurred today.

If I'd never heard either story before, the simple "from mud and then a rib" story doesn't sound any more impressive than, "well, started with basically all matter in an absurdly small space.........arranged it in such a manner that when it became the universe, I knew it would beget life......etc etc etc".

There really isn't one. However, that would involve admitting the Bible is bullshite or science isn't absolute and doesn't give us answers to everything yet.

No one wants to admit either, because they think it will weaken their worldviews.

It seems like a handful in this small sample size would care.

If you don't, it's as easy as moving past my post.

Gladly. Let me know if you're in the Orange Beach area doing some sidewalk proselytizing.

I've already admitted that I believe in evolution and a Creator

Even as an atheist, I don't know that it requires saying the bible is BS as much as it requires that one recognize that if a being did it as it appears, it ain't like the detailed explanation would have made sense to bronze age people. It requires an acknowledgement that the Bible may just use allegory as its primary tool to convey information.

Yes. I do find that when I see scientists say overtly that science requires atheism(or at least imply it) that it sounds dumb to me. I actually enjoy reading scientific literature MORE than political shite and, if anything, I find the more that I understand, the more I tend to consider a creative being likely. A "God" as we think of it? Nah. But, the idea of a creative being? I can wrap my brain around that.

OK. But, you acknowledge that overall, there seems to be general belief that one of the two is true.
1)Creation is true, therefore evolution is false
2)Evolution is true, therefore there is no God.

I find that construct to be somewhat silly.

For this discussion, I make very little distinction between the two.

If the overall discussion ever progresses past fundamentalism, I'd hear that argument.

I'm open to the idea that some entity is responsible for creation, whatever that may be. I don't think it even needs to be a being. It's also completely possible that what so many think of as some god, is really just science we don't yet understand. We just don't know what we don't know. That's what atheism is supposed to be.

Understood.

And, I almost hate even writing this sentence. But, I'm just thinking that if I'm God talking to bronze age people, I'm probably not going in to great detail on the how.

True

Agreed.

quote:

I keep telling people this. That "atheism" literally means, "without theism".

It doesn't mean I think I can prove there's no God. And no, that sentence doesn't mean I'm "agnostic". To me, the word "agnostic" is merely a word atheists use to make themselves feel less extreme.
