Exodus 20:7 So many people misunderstand and misapply The commandment not to use the name of the Lord thy God in vain
The prohibition is about not using the name of Yahweh as part of an oath if you are lying.
“I swear by Yahweh’s name I did not steal that goat.” would be permitted if telling the truth, but against the commandment if the guy was lying and really did steal the goat.
Here’s the same commandment in Leviticus 19:12 slightly expanded:
quote:
You shall not swear by my name falsely, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord

Not sure why you're being so argumentive with things that are obviously easy to understand. Satan's job is to turn you away from GOD. That's all he cares about. He doesn't care if you believe in him or not
So yes ... exactly
If it's so easy to understand why have you replaced God with a book/system that celebrates the death of the truth, way/path and light/life as a required sacrifice to save you?

John 14:6 Only through him can one get to the Father
Do you not believe that the Bible is the word of GOD?
Did the old testament not foretell that the Messiah would be tortured and killed.

Isaiah 53 (the "Suffering Servant" passage): Written centuries before Christ, it states that the servant would be "pierced for our transgressions" and "crushed for our iniquities" (Isaiah 53:5), led like a lamb to the slaughter, and cut off from the land of the living. [1, 2]

Do you not believe that the Bible is the word of GOD?
Hell no. The bible is collection of books that went through centuries long cherry picking process where Paul's free gift was more readily accepted by people because it's easy, while sects that kept true and told people to keep the commandments were killed off. The Romans formalized it to try and unify all religions, that's why it has so much pagan stuff.
John 14 is my favorite chapter in the bible. It is part of the reason why I can see the father in Jesus.
In verse 6, he is saying that only by the truth, the way and the life can you come unto the father. Not by his idol, but by those things he represents/is. Early followers just called it "The way". This was the way to be, to follow and keep the commandments.
Again, this made them less acceptable, and the Jewish people rejected them as well because they rejected Jesus to start with.
But keep going down in that chapter to John 26. That is the real word of God. That is where you will learn the truth. But don't skip down to it, look at how you get there in the verses above. It even talks about how non Christians can find it as long as they are looking for truth, the way and the light. The "Holy Ghost" is a real thing. It will teach you everything by giving you understanding of things. That is what is described in John 14.
He said nothing of scripture or any other such things. He talks about a real entity that teaches. And that is the only true teacher because men can not give the way it does - which is direct understanding.
It's how I know what I know and I was not and am not a Christian. But I know when I read the words of Jesus that the father is in him, and what he says - not what Paul says - is truth. The bottom of John 14 even gives a hint of this.
The only thing saved by the death of the truth is the lie and the lie will live until the truth returns.
You must keep the commandments is the bottom line. You need understanding to do that, and that is where it comes from.

If a man is standing in the middle of a street and a car is coming. Another man steps up and pushes that man out of traffic. He is killed in the process of doing so.
That man died to save that other man. But was it the death of the man that saved him, or was it the actions of him doing it that saved him? And if the man knew he would die in the process and did it anyway, what would you say of that man? Would you wear a BMW logo on your neck?

What in the Hades are you talking about.
I was saying the old testament told of the coming of the Messiah and what would happen to him and you're talking about...I don't know what

I can talk about the same things outside the bible. I use the bible to provide a lexicon so that I can communicate with other people this way. I can say Holy Ghost for example, but it does not go by such a label, or any labels. It'll teach you labels are not the important thing, the understanding they express is. A rose by any other name still smells the same and I recognize that what Jesus calls the holy ghost is that.
And because I can see the father in Jesus and what he is saying I know for a fact is true.
But I am not a Christian and I will never say that I am.
If you would like to talk about the subject outside the bible, I can do that. But it's basically the same result - you need to keep the commandments and understanding provided by God is needed to do that.
An understanding people do not seek when they accept the bible is the word of God because they are limiting God to that. Why search further when you can commit sin and just believe someone died for your sins and you get into heaven?

Huh?
Are you suggesting I mean the actual text verse of John 14:26 is the word of God rather than the Holy Ghost it talks about that will teach you?
That's weird.

Wow. So you don't believe that the Bible is the word of God, except some verses are and now you're comparing yourself to Jesus. Nice leap
Have a blessed night.

Does a collection of books have to be the word of god to have truth and wisdom in it?
Oh you must believe this and that otherwise you can't reference or think about any parts of the book?
What kind of horse shite dogma is that. I'll quote whatever the frick I want to quote.
Funny how easily a "Christian" can get upset by someone quoting the words of Jesus to them.

now you're comparing yourself to Jesus.
I'm also comparing you to the pharisees who couldn't dispute what Jesus said and so they resorted to those kinds of tactics.
At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
