re: A $5,000 payment would not cause inflation

The mental gymnastics 'Conservatives' have been doing on here to try and justify a $5k payment is breathtaking. They will say anything to try and justify more government handouts. It's pathetic.
Additionally, not being able to understand the repercussions of handing out $5k to everyone while NOT reducing spending is even more pathetic.
This money needs to go to the debt and spending needs to be reduced to pre covid levels.

Not hypothetical. If both our positions were presented in a court, you would lose badly.

Because they all were once working class Democrats. They cant escape their propensity to be bought off with shitty stimulus checks.

The Federal Reserve balance sheet is approximately $7 Trillion which consists of mostly Treasury bills (short term...6 months - 2 years), notes(medium term...10 years) and bonds (long term....30 year): LINK
Specifically pay those bills, notes and bonds down. That would have an impact on inflation because the FR would burn the cash and not allow it back into the economy.

Great college gig.
If you had ever gone to college, you wouldnt be making these retarded, anti conservative threads.

The point of this $5k being available is that it's not supposed to go to any of those things you just listed. It's supposed to not be spent/go to the debt.
You're just making shite up. Giving money back to the taxpayer is the government not spending that money. There is no "supposed to pay off debt" with this money. This money was never intended to pay off debt. It was intended to fill democrat coffers and personal bank accounts. It's a lie that this money was ever intended to pay off the debt.
They are still talking about paying down the debt with the DOGE money, just not using it all that way. As usual, you are being disingenuous.

I get it. But it would benefit most of us better going to pay off debt.

If Congress isn't going to get the budget down from $7 trillion to around $4.5 trillion then it won't matter where that $5k goes.
Why do you think I'm not for spending cuts as well?
Posted on 2/24/25 at 8:40 am to SlowFlowPro
So we put it all towards the debt vs giving it to all taxpayers…..
Fast forward 4 years if a democrat is elected. Debt goes right back up and the taxpayers get screwed once again..
Give me the check, please

Half the country pays less than 1k in fed taxes.
Its going to be a literal gift to most Americans.
Its a stimulus, when a stimulus is the last thing we need.

Before the silly policy was announced go find me the threads arguing thar DOGE had another goal.

Wtf?
They spent it on the taxpayer directly

You're changing things. If you go back to what you quoted I said the point of the 5000 being available is that it's not supposed to go to the debt.
Now you're pivoting to the original intention of the money itself and it's allocation, ignoring the whole point of Doge and reducing spending with the specific and exclusive goal of attacking our deficit and debt. My discussion was from that framing, where the purported "waste and fraud" you reference about was already identified as such.

Its no different than a stimulus check
It's only different from a stimmy check if the gov offsets the cost by reducing budget spending, dollar for dollar.
That's the only way I'd be in support of a stimmy. If we end up getting it, I'm just putting it in a fireproof bag in the safe anyway, so my part won't be stimulating an economy any time soon.

Exactly what it is, and the OP is wrong as usual, a trillion dollars plopped on consumers lap at once will bump inflation.
A trillion dollars? We are talking about $50-100 billion. Maybe if your information was accurate, you'd be able to make a better argument.

Pay it over time and it most likely will not.
That's exactly what they are doing. Most is going to the debt. No one ever said these were going to be regular payments. Like most people against the tax refund, you are basing your argument on information you made up in your head.

This is the perfect encapsulation of the bait and switch of populism and the insincerity of people really caring about the deficit and debt. All it takes is floating $5,000 in front of them and they argue that Doge is pointless and we should just ignore its function entirely due to a fatalistic belief about spending
