I can tell you crazier stuff than that. One of my favorites was a woman I know, a 1 star now, who did 6 years active duty then joined the reserves. Coming off active she had a disability of 50% because of a hysterectomy; that was just a standard percentage back then. In her ensuing career in the reserves she did several deployments on active duty. During those 6 months or whatever they were, her disability was halted because you can't get a disability AND active duty pay because that's illogical. When her deployments were over the disability pay resumed and weren't affected by her pay for being in the reserves.

And for every screwed up story like that there are people with legit problems and the VA fights them every step of the way. It's insane.

The fact they let people retire in their 40’s seems insane to me

That's sorta needed in the fields that really beat you up, but the rest of the service (roughly 80%) gets the benefit of the same rules.

We already spend more on defense than the next 5 largest militaries combined

I’m not sure increasing that by 50% will change anything. China can’t match what we already do

I 100% oppose this. Once the military budget is increased to 1.5 trillion the next goal will be 2 trillion. It never ends.

More military means more wars.
