So you want to pick and choose which laws to enforce based on what, exactly?

Well, we have laws on the books. We have the Executive Branch, right? They can enforce those laws they deem necessary. Kind of like how Obama had the discretion to not target nonviolent illegal immigrants, Trump has the discretion to target all illegal immigrants.

As for the pot, I wish it would be legalized. But if the President enforces the federal law, that would suck, but that's why we vote.

Are you asking if the potheads have to leave the country?

I'm asking why some people have to pay the consequences for breaking the law and not others.

Illegal immigration, as well as fed pot laws, has consequences. Until the laws are changed, they should be enforced. Get caught in the US illegally, out you go. Get caught with weed, pay the price for that too.

So deporting productive members of society may be deemed necessary, but prosecuting illegal drug dealers may not be deemed necessary.

Seems kind of capricious.

I don't think anyone is advocating for that.

well...

considering there's over 11 million of them, that's still 1.1 million.

There are studies saying it is as high as 30 million.

It's not really capricious when you have an elected official who secured his position on a specific platform.

Per Juan William
The 90% of illegals that have not committed a crime wouldn't be illegals if they didn't commit a crime

Let the drug dealers peddle their wares, but throw the damn cleaning lady back into the Sonoran Desert whence she came, amirite?

That's EXACTLY what people are advocating.

100% of illegals are illegal. Illegal things and activities are, in fact, a crime...

It is when that platform was one of a capricious application of the law.

They're both breaking federal law, you want to prosecute one, but not the other.

Why are you bringing up pot anyways? Isn't Sessions Mr. Anti-Pot? Maybe we will see them crack down on it, prompting legislative reform (hopefully).

They are both breaking federal law, yes, but it's not my job to enforce federal law. Is it hypocritical? Yes. Does that dictate illegal immigrants get to stay? No.

If Juan was considering a move to a new neighborhood and told that 10% of its residents had committed various crimes he wouldn't go near the place.

I want to see the gymnastics on this statement.

Fake? What do you mean fake? You mean committed another crime like, I don't know, stealing an identity?
