I was pretty down on Johnson but passing the budget framework and CR as well as making a lot of progress on the reconciliation package has been impressive considering he has basically no votes to lose when Massie is going to be a no on all these issues.

Nah. He's right. It shouldn't be allowed.

That would only hurt the GOP. Women on the left dont reproduce. It leaves women on the right in a spot where they can't do their job should they get pregnant while serving. GOP women should not be prevented from doing their elected job because they believe in family and having kids.

If this gets changed to allow gay couples adopting kids to vote from home, then that is a whole different story.

Ok. So he is going to sulk for the next 3 days? Why can't they work on Trump's agenda? He is being a bitch.

Was she on the rules committee?

What the hell kind of non sequitur is that?

YOU said it was unconstitutional. I asked you to show where the Constitution addressed this.

Any member of the house can move to change their rules.

I honestly have no idea what your train of logic is here.

I still don't see the problem with letting new mothers proxy vote.

Plenty of the repubs against this have voted by proxy.

I just dislike the hypocrisy from the republicans.

The hypocrisy is with the Republicans, by and large, pushing for return to work and no special concessions for checkbox people... then Luna pulling this stunt.

It was a personal attack on Luna and nothing more.

This is for breeding congress critters as well as congressmen whose spouses give birth.

If I'm not mistaken, it is to be used by any new parent, male or female.

As far as the dems go... I'm glad they know what a new mom is now.

If they have a vote by proxy, it sets a terrible precedent. They need to challenge the constitutionality of this immediately.

I have a hot take here. Send them all home and make them vote remotely using biometrics for authentication. Close down the Washington offices.

The other fair points are slippery slope as well as admin47 advocating for being AT work and ending special favor scenarios across the whole of government.

Look at it this way: We already have 12 weeks of paid maternity leave for federal employees, thanks to Ivanka Trump pushing a bill that 45 signed in 2019.

All she seems to be asking is to let her vote during a time when Trump has said she shouldn’t have to work at all.

She can take her 12 weeks... no one is forcing her to come into work.

She is asking for special treatment that benefits her first and few others thereafter.

I'm close to agreeing with this. Make the lobbyists spend significantly more money flying to 220+ unique congressional districts to pay off their congressmen instead of having them all in one centralized location.

Fine.

He shouldn't shut down the House for the rest of the week over it.

I honestly don’t get it.

You’d rather her be gone completely rather than do what she can with a minor accommodation?

And, yes, motherhood is a special circumstance. I would absolutely be against almost any other situation.

You're right. Motherhood is a special circumstance. It wouldn't stop there, though.

Would you really be against allowances for cancer treatments or dialysis at the same time being in favor of proxy for new mommies?

I feel, if new parents get that consideration, then so should other health issues.

Sounds like a good plan at first... but what about the debate and conversation they should be having? This move would ruin my watching of CSPAN3.

Everyone's favorite press secretary went back to work days after giving birth.

Luna wants three months.
