Louisiana should pass School Choice Vouchers into law and each family get $8,000 also. They should not be stuck in failing Public Schools. Kids should have the choice to go to Metairie Park Country Day School, Newman, Jesuit, Episcopal Baton Rouge, Episcopal of Acadiana, and other top schools.

Louisiana residents do you think are paying $8,000 a year in property taxes?
What does what LA residents are paying have to do with a Texas proposal?

but those are public services nobody wants to deny.
There are plenty of people who want to opt out of funding police.

outside of the left saying "defund the police" nobody is begrudging that money.
Yes. Outside of the people who want to defund the police, there are people who don’t mind funding the police.

You just don’t want to have to pay for it?

BINGO!
School vouchers are wasting millions of dollars of education funding in Louisiana.

Chubbies thinks people will spend millions of dollars building schools for vouchers.

They may not be be, but the owner of the property they rent is paying property tax, no? Even if the shitbags living free in section 8 housing aren't responsible for property taxes, aren't the section 8 properties privately owned, and the owners pay property tax?

If you are a Catholic School, do you want the state interfering in the curriculum? Do you want the state "interested" in your racial makeup, etc. "You like all that voucher money? Be a shame if you could no longer be eligible to take it.....need more Black students....or Hispanic students..." We suggest these text books.....if you want to keep the 8K a year per pupil. There's too much potential for interference by the state.
No. Which is why in many states these schools are not accepting the money DIRECTLY. They simply provide proof of attendance to the state program that student x whose parents have applied for the school choice program does in fact attend school x in the x grade. The reimbursement is between the parent and the state program NOT the school and the state directly.
I’m not sure if you’re just looking to argue. I’m simply telling you that in many states religious schools (my school included which is FAR more conservative than any Louisiana catholic school) participate in the program indirectly but are not beholden to it.

For real. The government should be the only one that gets money for crappy schools. They hate competition.

Because it is the job of the government to waste education money not private institutions! Stay in your lane, everybody!

I wonder if I could come up with a list of links to publicly funded schools that are not doing well. Probably not. You win.

So, where exactly does public education in Louisiana rank? But sure, it's probably the voucher schools that are skewing their ranking.

Arkansas has $6500 school choice vouchers, and we have had basically unlimited school choice for several years now.
Probably the best thing for Arkansas schools the past decade is the explosion of charter schools in most areas.
The Waltons support charters bigtime.

Oh, I didn’t argue that vouchers are the only thing wrong with public schools. But they are a huge source of fraud and corruption. Are you ok with that since vouchers are not the only area that needs improvement?

Sure, but I’m not sure how that would be relevant to a discussion about school vouchers.
I can also provide lots of examples of pollution negatively impacting communities, but, again, I’m not sure how relevant that would be to this discussion about school vouchers.
Unless your stance is that taxpayer money can and should be wasted through fraud?

Charter schools are all the rage these days. the student body of the local one grew tremendously the last 2 years.

Yeah bro, all you have to do is buy or rent in the more expensive part of town. It's no big deal if you're making only 30 or 35k a year. Easy peasy.
Not everyone should get to live in the good parts of towns… if they did, no one would want to live there

quote:Ok, great. It is a terrible idea. Do you not think that if you hand 8k vouchers to many, many parents they wont find a way to monetize that? They would sell those damn vouchers to schools for half the money and no kid would walk thru the doors.
For real. The government should be the only one that gets money for crappy schools. They hate competition.
Your analogy is so bad. It would be akin to me saying that if you believe school vouchers are the answer, you also believe food stamp money is spent wisely.
Again, I am not against vouchers, but there needs to be a ton of safeguards in place to protect the students and the taxpayer.
