quote:You mean something drastic like parents raising their kids to have respect and understand how important an education is. Rather than holding people accountable they want school choice which will put the shite heads in schools with kids who have parents that raise their kids the right way.
It’s going to take something drastic and systemwide to change anything.

Louisiana should pass School Choice Vouchers into law and each family get $8,000
And private school tuition will go up 8k over night. Take a look at college tuition since the inception of TOPS and federal student loans.
Some people are morons lol

Would also be a good way to destroy some good private schools
The law of supply and demand would dictate that the price for those schools will naturally go up.

That's the goal. My hometown (DFW suburb) had excellent public schools when I was a kid. Eventually, the FedGov took notice and decided that we weren't diverse enough. So, HUD bought up enough Section 8 housing to properly enrich the area and make it more vibrant.

It’s been awesome so far for us in Florida. Nice that my tax dollars actually being used
Also our tuition for next year hasn’t gone up any more than the normal year over year increase we’ve had the last 5 years.

Is this $8000 extra? Or, is it $$ that would follow the student? IE...the private school gets the money the public would otherwise? I could support that, as it's cash neutral.
Yes. This is how it goes here in Florida. Parents can even use it for homeschooling curriculum.

I work with K12 and support public education entirely.

In Florida they basically made the voucher for the amount the public schools got from the state . So the state money is just following the kid which is a good thing . The problem in Florida is that private schools had to accept both types of vouchers and one of them had strings attached to it . The small private school my daughter goes to said they will likely not accept the vouchers next year unless there is changes. Seems like this is something that is going to be popular now that multiple states have done it .

There’s been a “massive improvement” across the country because schools are passing anyone with a pulse.

I don’t see anything about that currently online.

What people don’t realize is parents have always had school choice. You want your kid to go to a better school move to that district. You want your kid in private school, save money and pay like the rest.
There is a reason the best schools are located where they are. Whats next? Giving vouchers and grants so they can get a house in a better neighborhood too?
Yeah bro, all you have to do is buy or rent in the more expensive part of town. It's no big deal if you're making only 30 or 35k a year. Easy peasy.

Correct.
While I have many issues with public education in its current form, I think it gives the majority of students (outside of behemoth inner city schools) a chance better themselves and in Texas there has been a big focus on CTE for non college students.
My biggest gripes are “woke” (I hate the term, but it fits) ideology and an overhiring of administrators. And consultants. Don’t get me started on consultants.

While I'm against this welfare redistribution, who is enrolling their kids in expensive private schools solely because they received an $8000 off coupon?

This doesn’t destroy the good private schools. They have admissions requirements and many are full anyway.
What happens is new schools pop up in churches that the kids attend. They are understaffed or under qualified to teach and or run a school. The kids don’t learn anything and the church grifts those vouchers with tuition being exactly the voucher amount.

Up here the system is in it's early stages, one private school in my city has added about 60 students K-12 not sure about the other Catholic school system.
Talked to a kid's parents that moved over to the school I coach at, the voucher made it affordable, if not they would have stayed at the public school.
Biggest issue is there are limited seats so this isn't going to empty out public schools like some fear.

Are you receiving those vouchers too? Or do you have to qualify for it?
I thought we were talking about ALL students getting a voucher.

The small private school that my kids went to initially is actually in danger of losing about 65% of their current 3rd grade because they DON’T accept it and equivalent schools do.
My kids current school doesn’t accept the money directly. We have to go through the process and receive a card for the state for part of the tuition. The same kids who went before still go there. We’re basically paying 10/kid as opposed to 18-19 now
