Without the possibility to pass any amendments....
Lots of "small govt conservatives" are celebrating in the Senate tonight.

A hotly debated surveillance bill Tuesday night moved one step closer to a final vote, barely clearing a key procedural Senate hurdle despite bipartisan opposition that nearly scuttled the vote.
The 60-38 vote to invoke cloture on the legislation — which would extend the powerful spying tools authorized under Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act — moves to limit debate over the proposal and sets up lawmakers for a final vote Wednesday or Thursday.

The vote, which started around 5:45 p.m., dragged on for over an hour, a rarity in the Senate, before stalling at 58-38. Ultimately, both sides’ hopes rested on Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and John Kennedy (R-La.).
“I don’t like the fact that we’re not allowed to consider amendments,” Kennedy told reporters after the vote. “I don’t like that at all.”
The two lawmakers shuffled between a huddled group of 702 critics — which included Wyden, Paul and libertarian-leaning Republicans Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah — and GOP leadership. For an extended period of time, McConnell stood alone, watching while the two holdouts discussed the issue with their colleagues.

This should be leading headlines and discussions. I don't want to hear any bullshite about freedom while the majority of our senate votes to spy on us.

I am sure the networks that matter will get right on this.

You'll find more criticism of illegal spying in a third-world, tinpot dictatorship than you will from mainstream American news media. They are nothing more than mouthpieces for the intelligence establishment and their puppets in Congress.

Can the House come through and stop this? Or did it originate there?

Paul has vowed a Filibuster if I'm not mistaken. Make em' pay for allowing Obama a mulligan on His corrupt/criminal "wiretapping" of the Trump Campaign.
That aside, Hannity said that what IS coming "will shock the conscience of law abiding Americans. Leaves out the Libs of course. They'll be out of 'shock'; used it all up on the "sh&%hole comment.

Yup. They started it.

It's not a vote to "spy on us" at all, anyway.

So Kennedy voted in favor?
Not surprising. He's always been a liberal democrat at heart.

702 is a necessary evil. It allows collection of foreign intelligence. Americans cannot be targeted, only incidental collection is allowed.

Correct. They do this without Congress or the American people consenting currently.

Was the Trump Dossier FISA Warrant a 702?

Most of the Senate R's did as well.
They love them some big brother.

Incidental. Right.
Thats why the intelligence community flipped out when the intelligence gathered "incidentally" would require a warrant.
Even better is how the the Senate and House fell in line.
