It’s very simple. The MEU contains about 2200ish Marines and the ride around on a group of boats called an ARG or amphibious ready group. It takes a couple thousand sailors to operate these ships. That brings the total to about 5000 personnel. And of the 2200ish Marines only about 1500ish are ground combat troops. The rest or HQ, logistics or aviation Marines.
Not sure why I have to explain this to someone who was “attached” to 2/4 and 2/6 to be honest.

The number of the MEU is not the included ships company. I don’t know why I’m even arguing this with you.
When someone refers to the 2/4 or 2/6 MEU, they aren’t referring to the fricking US Navy ships crew. They are referring to the Marines onboard. The ships crew is completely separate.

Yes they’re MEU goes on deployments all the time and for years they haven’t been doing ground deployments in country.
But right now during the Iran war, they are being deployed.
Much different situation than 1987 when we weren’t in an active war.
