The reason that scientist know that our recent warming is not a part of a natural cycle is its speed. Natural variations in our planets climate occur slowly over tens of thousands of years at the most extreme. The climatic changes we are observing are thousands of times faster than normal
Why do you believe this to be accurate?

That is a different scenario. That was a changing of the shape of the container. What we are talking about with recent sea level rise is adding water to the container that was locked up in ice for millions of years.
Dude, I haven't posted one damn thing about climate change in this thread. A post was made about sharks teeth being found in Mississippi. You replied that they were 400 million years old. I simply stated that the was an inland sea beginning around 100 million years ago. Some teeth in Alabama have been dated to be only 40 million years old.

It's not a matter of belief. It's factual evidence.

The claim inplies that this is a new constant. Is this a 1 day high...a week long high...a month long "new norm" or what. The "It's 32 at the NP" observation is lacking in context.
Do you know??

It has been politicized far longer than that. Before Al Gore invented the Internet, he was working on solving climate change.

Don't know if you were being tongue in cheek. I suspect you were, as 8 degrees is way below freezing.

In order for someone to make that claim, they would have had to review the evidence both pro and con. What evidence did you review?

I miss seeing the millions of ducks and geese at The Wheeler Wildlife Refuge like we use to see. The sky would be covered with them, now, not very much. They will never be back.
Pretty sure this was caused by DDT dumping in the river.

The pity is,there is no unpolitical research.
quote:This makes no sense. Why worry about the very mild and easily mitigated effects (even if you believe he doomsdayer evangelist warmists) when--as you note--there are so many other more damaging effects.
There is nothing wrong though, with us all trying to lower our impact where practical...just in case.
It's should be a clue to all of us that so much effort is made on "climate change" rather than other more important, pressing environmental issues.
It's emphasized and pushed because it aligns so well with a certain political agenda.

It was caused by organizations like Ducks Unlimited creating large sanctuaries up north that they keep thawed out by pumping warm water in the water. The birds stay up there

If you look at global temperature history you'll note the planet tends to warm up after an ice age.
We had a very recent one. People seem to forget about it.
It is a temporary shift in location of cold so don't expect the Florida Keys to go under anytime soon.

It's because the companies that do the dumping have the pull to make it go away. Look at the 3M & Daikin dumping in to the Tennessee River this year. It's like it never happened at this point.
Well it doesn't just go away.. but it will be tied up with lawyers for 3-5 more years minimum.
Lawyers are pure environmental cancer for the most part

Umm, Miami Beach floods at high tide now. It's gotten increasingly bad over the past 10 years.
ETA: I Googled and found no actual data showing this to be true. I found differing explanations such as rain storms and land sinking. The only information concerning actual ocean level rise was predictions with the normal reference to data that is produced from models and then tweaked after that.

South LA and it's disappearing land mass would suggest otherwise.
Man keeps screwing around with it. The canals that were cut into the marsh that has let salt water in that is killing it.
The worst may be the Corps of Engineers purposely diverting the Mississippi River and not allowing it to follow where it naturally wants to flow. All because they want to save the New Orleans economy.

are you really that adverse to putting simple concepts together...
right now we are at around 1.2-1.5 degrees average global land and sea temperatures above the century average.
in the normal natural cycle a temperature increase like that would take 10s of thousands of years to accomplish not 100.
Posted on 12/24/16 at 1:53 pm to matthew25
The ice is not melting due to land temperatures.
It is melting, and only a certain type of ice is melting, from an underwater split that happened under the ice during the 40s. Now a warm water current flows under it and the water current is what is melting it.
There is more land ice than before. It's the lower levels that are melting.

First, I doubt we know what the average world temperature was to the nearest tenth more than 50 years ago, much less 10s of thousands of years. Second, what you are doing is the equivalent to looking at a single day percentage increase on a stock and selling everything you've got to buy as much as you can, believing that single day rate of return will occur every day from now on.

What is the source for your claim of 1.5 degree increase?
Your claim of this being an unprecedented rise is bullshite.
What are you afraid of?? Why does the weather scare you so much??

A lot of truth to that also. DU has saved massive amounts of wetlands but they do tend to worry about the breeding grounds and not so much about the wintering grounds. DU has thousands of projects in Canada which now winter birds all year....they never migrate unless those deep, spring fed ponds freeze up and being spring fed they don't unless the weather gets cold and stays that way. I have friends who were in Saskatchewan in middle november this year slaying mallards and greater canadas in T shirts....those birds are, from all accounts, in the texas panhandle and even on the gulf coast (y'all are supposed to be having a once in a lifetime mallard migration on the LA Gulf coast????) but they aren't going to winter there...the upper plains and the midwest is going to thaw and those birds are going to back migrate to areas where the season is closed....should leave plenty of seed for breeding but the same thing happened last year....the number of birds harvested in the south was way down...because the birds were able to stay in areas where the season closes by mid December and werent hunted into late January because they were fat and happy on DU projects and NWR where the temps were above freezing and the grain wasn't covered with snow....
