If art can't sustain itself on its own merit...it shouldn't exist.

These funds will allow the most liberal of gender and race studies exhibitions, then the media will report on them, and it all feeds back into the machine.

This is startup money for political propaganda.

Why is this even in this package?

Because it is in an industry which is completely shut down, not unlike any other industry getting relief money. It employs real people and it will be shut down for much longer than almost anyone else.

You can apply this flippant non-reasoning to each and every business getting money under this bill.

quote:

$30.75 billion for grants to provide emergency support to local school systems and higher education institutions to continue to provide educational services to students and support the ongoing functionality of school districts and institutions.

How much of this will Warren see?

quote:

$1.03 billion to the Indian Health Service to support tribal health care system response efforts; $100 million more for the USDA Food Distribution Program for American Indian Reservations; $453 million to assist tribes through the Bureau of Indian Affairs; $69 million to help tribal schools, colleges and universities through for the Bureau of Indian Education; $300 million more to the HUD Indian Housing Block Grant program.

the senate passed it and the president signed it?

if so, that's bad news across the spectrum.

Oh sure. Because it takes plenty of hard working people to stand around and make sure the art doesn't fall off the wall...or that someone doesn't run off with it.

President Trump needs to make a itemized list of each pork barrel item and present those items to the American people...then follow that up with "this is why I am vetoing this bill"

Uh...how about having schools donate the money they would have spent on the semester to the nation's pot? Schools are literally out. The students are at home. Ridiculous.

Then why isnt every Arts Center across America receiving this type of funding?

Is it because Pelosi likes to go to a lot of the events there? I mean shes got to have something to do after all those 2 minute House sessions

right out the gate there isn't enough money for the 2020 election

quote:

Coronavirus response includes $400 million in election assistance. Will it be enough?

A sweeping federal spending package responding to the new coronavirus pandemic will include millions to help states administer elections, but some fear it will not be enough to prevent chaos in November.

The enormous spending bill expected to be released Wednesday morning will include $400 million in election assistance, according to two sources who have seen a summary of the bill from appropriators. That figure is still a fraction of the $2 billion the Brennan Center for Justice estimated is necessary for states to prepare for a surge of voters casting ballots by mail and to ensure safe in-person voting.

Ben Hovland, the chairman of the Election Assistance Commission, said on Tuesday before the deal was announced that it is difficult to determine how much federal assistance is necessary to prepare states for November.

“From what I've been hearing from state and local election officials around the country, I think the number is closer to $2 billion," he added.

Election officials are already scrambling to adjust to the pandemic, postponing primaries and stressing absentee voting options so voters can avoid polling places. To curb the spread of the virus, public health officials have recommended gatherings not exceed 10 people.

House Democrats initially proposed $4 billion in election assistance, while Senate Republicans proposed $140 million. Democrats were also pushing for additional provisions, such as requiring states to allow up to 15 days of early voting and provide no-excuse vote-by-mail options.

Elections are traditionally the domain of states, and Republicans had complained that the provisions in the House Democrats’ bill — which were contained in another election overhaul bill the House passed last year that has gone nowhere in the Senate — were an attempt to usurp that power.
