It’s the pretty factor.
We don’t eat pretty animals and we don’t cut down pretty plants and trees.

Live oaks have a short root system. After 200 years, surprised it’s still standing. Life span on that IIRC is 60-70 years.
Louisiana's Champion live oak is estimated to be at least 500 years old.

You’ve yet to reply with a single management practice or habitat theory as it relates to wildlife or timber management.
You most certainly are a legend in your own mind. LMAO!

I happen to think ducks, deer, elk and turkey gobblers are some of the most beautiful animals God created.
And damned fine eating.

What would you rather look at? Folks wearing flip flops, shuffling into a convenience store or an oak tree?
Posted on 8/21/25 at 12:14 am to A10Rebel
It depends on if and how obese they are

Dude I grew up in Ocean Springs, they would run you out of town if you dared to touch a big live oak. They had a tree committee that guarded those trees like they were their own children. I would complain about them but that’s one of the reason is was so nice a place to live.

quote:I already said in a previous post that man was given dominion over nature but not abusive dominion. This planet still belongs to God.
But I can’t not care. And I don’t think I want anything to do with religions who seemingly don’t care about nature.
God flooded the earth once and will destroy it with fire in the future. The earth is a habitat for God’s primary creation: mankind. Therefore, we should care for the earth but not at the expense of mankind, like some environmentalists do who see mankind as a virus that is infecting and destroying the earth and should be eliminated for the sake of a healthy planet.

I don’t think I will ever be ok with diminishing longleaf pine habitat being wiped out just so a church can get some fill dirt. Either they aren’t following God regarding his creation or God just doesn’t care.

There is a Dollar General everywhere you look nowadays

Define expense?
Mankind: I want money from development
And when it says abuse, is extinction of a species abuse? Were there any spiritual implications for the people who drove the northern white rhino to extinction?

I don’t fully understand the question.
The church being discussed could have purchased fill dirt from an existing source. Instead they wiped out longleaf pines (which can live for hundreds of years and are much reduced compared to historical numbers) and eliminated habitat for the myriad creatures that lived there. I bet not a single person running that church considered what they were doing to God’s natural creation.

Because where you started in this thread is ignorant, and you clearly believe you know everything. There is no point.
ETA: Just to clarify, you said trees that are later in their lifespan have no value to wildlife whatsoever. When questioned, you doubled down. I don't have to provide anything beyond your own words to prove that you don't know nearly what you claim. I wouldn't let you "manage" my lawncare.

Now you’re just lying.
I said that the benefits to wildlife are often increased by thinning old growth timber. And yes, oaks often live longer than their ability to produce acorns.
I notice you’ve yet to submit your views on old growth thinning management for wildlife habitat.
You won’t either because you know I’ll embarrass your tree hugging arse.
