Christians will tell you that Christianity cannot be forced upon anyone, even at the point of a sword. It has to be willingly accepted.

Which may very well be true.

But that does not change the fact that Christians (Spanish, Portuguese, French, English, Dutch, et. al.) were the prime colonizers of the Western hemisphere, Australia and parts of Africa, and they did not always treat the indigenous people in a Christian-like manner.

And yes, I also know that different groups of indigenous people did not always treat each other nicely either.

After the rapture, Islam will be the largest religion on the planet. They will enforce sharia law worldwide. Anyone left here will be forced to worship their Mahdi as god or lose their head. This is what is in store in the end times. Believe the gospel if you aren't saved so you can avoid this because it is coming in our future.

Yikes.

Was not done to spread Christianity. It was done to increase the power of those nations and build their wealth.

there is a bit of a structural difference between christian church management system and muslims. Catholics for instance have a rigid top down pope, cardinal, archbishop, bishop, rector, priest, alter boy set up. Supposed to follow the party line. Results in adversaries easily mounting legal threats to tear down. Take Shitte muslims as example, very loosely organized, leader may be dead or not for last 6 months, each local mosque runs it own politics to attack whatever, claims sharia law, which is not written down. How do you push back on an amorphous system?

Explain Islam? They are what ever they want to be for advantage at any point in time. Pork, foot wash, prayer time exists to force non believers into believing muslims have belief systems

It was both. The Spanish were hard core Catholics who had just completed the Reconquista of the Iberian peninsula and persecution of the Jewish population of the region.

When they began to colonize the Western hemisphere, they carried the same Christian banners that were used during the Crusades against the Muslims. They brought with them Catholic missionaries whose job it was to convert the natives.

There is a document called the "Requerimiento" that the conquistadors were required to read to the natives before they could subdue them. The Requerimiento explained Christianity, and if they failed to convert, then they would be subjugated. Most of the natives could not understand Spanish, so it fell on deaf ears.

Anyway, the point is that Islam is not the only religion that was spread at the point of a sword.
