President Biden offered a stony-hearted “no comment” Sunday when asked about the mounting death toll in the catastrophic Maui wildfire – the deadliest US wildfire in more than a century – after sunning himself on a beach near his Delaware home.

The commander-in-chief gave the unsympathetic non-answer as the death toll climbed to 96 late Sunday.

“After a couple hours on the Rehoboth beach, @potus was asked about the rising death toll in Hawaii,” Bloomberg reporter Justin Sink wrote on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter.

“‘No comment,’ he said before heading home,” added the White House correspondent, who also posted a photo of Biden, 80, lounging with a group of people in the distance.

The grim tally — which is expected to rise as search and rescue operations frantically continue — made the inferno Hawaii’s worst natural disaster.

It is also now the deadliest US wildfire since 1918, when 453 people died in the Cloquet fire in Minnesota and Wisconsin, according to data from the National Fire Protection Association.

Brandon had to talk about his Ice Cream.

But I’m sure Hawaii will keep electing democrats.

(Did you know there are only two republicans in the Hawaii state senate?)

My understanding is that it is grasslands which weren’t being maintained.

High rains - lots of growth

Drought after that - lots of dry fuel to catch fire

What cause the spark is certainly in question but proper forestry wasn’t taking place per the U of Hawaii.

Are wild fires unusual for Hawaii? I thought the place was rainy and super humid.

This would be 24-7 news with a Republican in office and how he didn’t care and about his failed policies and every democrat and everyone affected by it blaming republicans.

I agree... I am no wildfire expert but when you see only houses burned and trees are not touched... Very strange...

Generally the south side of all Hawaiian Islands are normally dry whereas the northern sides are very rainy. Rain clouds are formed and dump their moister as they approach on the windward side these islands due atmospheric compression from the mountains/volcanos. The leeward side is dry.

Lahaina is situated on the dryer side of Maui.

My guess is that he has been "trained" by his handlers to reply "no comment" when asked questions because he doesn't have a damn clue to what is going on in that addled brain of his.

Why? Not much rain + undermaintained growth = wildfires. You can look at the NOAA data and Maui had about 30-50% less than normal precipitation from the beginning of June to the end of July. The only spots on Hawaii that have gotten much rain this summer is at the top of the volcanos. The coast hasn't gotten squat.

That is because the people in charge haven't told him what to say yet.

My theory is these are topical trees and do not have high oil content like evergreen pines that are flammable when green. With low oil content and high water content tropical trees do not burn under normal conditions. With that said I would not rule out arson in some cases for insurance money.

Note, these large trees are getting water from deeper underground even with the ground surface being very dry. The wild fires were caused by unmaintained brush. Brush do not have deep root systems.
