Runner dies at Brooklyn Half Marathon finish line, 15 others taken to hospital
quote:

One runner died Saturday morning after finishing the Brooklyn Half Marathon, authorities said.

The 30-year-old man, who was not identified, possibly suffered cardiac arrest around 9 a.m. and was taken to Coney Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.

The runner collapsed after finishing the race, according to the New York Road Runners club which held the event.

Sad and strange.

There's heat wave this weekend, but a 30-year-old man who runs regularly dying of cardiac arrest?

Could it just be the heat?

Now run along before the Fauci Gestapo comes in and buries you underneath a prison so that you’ll never be heard from again.

His dying words were....

"I’m just thankful that I got all of my Covid shots and the six boosters that came along with it. I would be a lot worse off if it weren’t for Dr. Fauci and the Covid shots."

People do die from heat in a marathon.
Ideal temps to run halfs and fulls are around 40 degrees.
Temps in Brooklyn today were near 90.
Organizers should have seriously considered canceling the event.

That's why you almost never have long races like this scheduled in the summer in the South. Just too dangerous for heat stoke, etc. potential.

Guys, facts matter to us. We aren’t the left.

In this particular case, I went back and checked the temp for every Brooklyn half marathon since 2010. They are around the week of the 18th of may every year.

LINK

None of the years had close to this temp. It topped out at 90 today there. Way higher than before. This is a legit reason for the heat injuries and they probably should have cancelled.

It happens. Gal from LA, Erin Krielow Lahr died in the Dallas marathon a few years ago.

Heat illness with no preexisting condition is very survivable when it’s caught and treated early. Races like this have every treatment possible for heat illness and medical professionals who can identify and treat people for heat. There would be cool water immersion tubs and IV fluids located at the end of the race, for example.

Interested to hear what they ultimately determine to be the cause of death. Chances are, it’s something confounding other than heat stroke.

Seems like they changed the link. I added the new link to the OP so it should work now.

First, the runners have to be willing to use them. Maybe they were pushing for a good time and didn't want to stop for water.
Trust me, this is not strange to die after finishing a half in that type heat.
