V: I didn't remove Matt Kemp and Magic Johnson, but I thought—

DS: Why?

V: I thought Matt Kemp is mixed, and he was OK, just like me.

DS: OK.

V: He's lighter and whiter than me.

DS: OK.

DS: There's no racism here. If you don't want to be... walking... into a basketball game with a certain... person, is that racism?

In 2009 Sterling was subject to the largest housing discrimination lawsuit payout ever, related to his attempts to evict blacks and Hispanics from his properties.

In 2011 he testified that he did not know Hall of Famer Elgin Baylor had been a basketball player at the time Baylor was hired by the Clippers. That same year, he celebrated Black History Month in the wrong month.

That article is great.

He can say what he wants, but he has to deal with other people's opinions also. As long as he isn't impeding someone else's freedom or physically harming them, he can do what he wants.

No.

He is representing a HUGE, insanely wealthy Association any time he opens his mouth. If Silver finds that Sterling's archaic views and general assholery is bad for business, he should be fined handsomely/encouraged to sell the franchise. There are plenty of people who'd want to own a team in Los Angeles who can at least keep their racism to themselves.

As I said in the first part of my quote that you left out, he has to deal with other people's views and opinions. This includes his work associations. He's a bigot that will get handled with thusly. He still has the freedom to say what he wants to in this country, but there are always consequences to that freedom.

Will be interesting to see if this is used in the pay for play narrative.
