The offense will finally shake off the chains from the GC/JL/JJ era in 2013.....

For those who are convinced Miles is such a big 10, ground and pound guy who hates creativity, why has he hired Crowton, Gonzales, Stud, and Krag as assistants in his time at LSU????
None of them are from the type of run only mentality that people claim Miles to want.
The fact is after two of our most exciting offenses in LSU history under Miles in 06 and 07 we had to shut down the O after the pick six fest in 08 because we had an OC and two quarterbacks that made each other worse and began a cycle of steadily declining performance.
Things got a bit better in 2011 with a new perspective from Krag before running into great Ds in Bama and Georgia, which those 2 QBs after their regressions under Crowton simply weren't capable of attacking successfully (especially twice).
This year the full O scheme never got a truly fair shot to be showcased due to a WR corps that lacked explosiveness and consistent catching especially early on, and an in-season collapse of the OL due to injury and attrition that would have likely destroyed ANY other teams chances of having ANY success, but somehow our coaches and young players on the OL salvaged it.
All this while breaking in a new QB with an ungodly amount of hype almost impossible to live up to, and not much mobility who had to learn how to recognize pressure in the SEC behind a work in progress OL.
This could have been a DISASTER, but we won 10 games and threw for more yards down the stretch than we have in years, beginning against Alabama.
This O is going to be exceptional next year, the way it was in 06 and 07 when we had an SEC level QB, and anyone who can't see that should bookmark this and we'll revisit this in a year and see who's right.

I'm tired of hearing about how next year is the year the offense explodes. I've just accepted that we will have a ho hum offense and rely on a great defense to win games. I just want to see another crystal football soon.

In all fairness, I've never been pumping the O as ready to explode before now. I really have thought for years that Crowton cast this system on a spiral that would take time to climb out of.
I honestly believed both QBs and the O could be better under Krag, which they were.
And we all knew Mett would be better than both, which he is.
This is the first year I feel like we will be out of that shadow

Agree. Leslie will be big addition. 6'4" and fast. He can stretch field like Byrd.

Yet regardless of who is calling the plays, regardless of that year's team's particular strengths and weaknesses are, the toss dive remains the staple of our offense. I tend to agree that the offense will be better next year, but the idea that Les is conservative on offense is a well deserved criticism.

We should have some better recievers next season with Leslie and possibly Gardner coming in. But the biggest thing is that Mett should really be use to the speed of the SEC and be a lot more comfortable in the offense. All those long passes that he over threw by step or two he starts hitting next season. I think we are going to see big things from the offense next season.

Come on...you know Miles doesn't throw the ball.
That 275 passing yards passing average in our last 4 games couldn't have come from a Miles team.
I think Mett, his R'ers, the patch work O-line, and the staff finally came together.
I damn sure hope so and I hope we will see it continue in the bowl game and next season.

Shockingly, I agree with much of what you said.
2008 scared Miles in to a conservative offense. I think if you asked Miles candidly, he would say that he never trusted Lee (slightest hint of pressure and the ball was out with almost no regard for where it was going) and Jefferson (held onto the ball because he never seemed to know where to go with it). 2011 was better, but the emergence of a great running game coupled with a very opportunistic D helped lead to that. Post Alabama in '11, the offense was back to its putrid self (see WKU, Ark and UGA) and it wasn't all a product of those teams having great defenses. Without Tyran Mathieu and LSU's great D, they very well could have lost to Ark and UGA.
This year the fans unrealistically expected a QB who had never started a SEC game to be a Heisman contender from day one. It took Mettenberger time to get comfortable, but we all saw his emergence at the end of the year.
What I would say about your post is instead of saying "the offense will finally shake the chains", you should say "THERE'S NO EXCUSE for next year's offense to not finally shake the chains." LSU returns an experienced, somewhat proven QB. A loaded group of RB's, a talented and experienced OL and a talented group of WR who most would expect to have a better year than they did this season.
Sorry Les, unless 9 of the 11 projected starters on O get hurt preseason, there's NO EXCUSE why LSU shouldn't have one of the top offenses in the SEC next year. All the pieces are there!

the offense put up like 500 yds on Arky, and had started moving the ball before Tyrann was making plays. I question ppl's memories sometimes.
