@Josh_Ward: Hyams on WNML: Gruden told Tennessee he appreciated the opportunity but he's no longer a candidate. 2m

@Josh_Ward: Jon Gruden has informed Tennessee he isn't interested in becoming UT's football coach, per @JimmyHyams. 4m

who the hell would want to work for less than you make now in part time gigs. I think he probably never coaches again and when he does it will be in the NFL.

Memphis radio saying Gruden about to sign a big ESPN contract.

Tennessee supposedly has their sites solely on Jimbo Fishser.

I just don't think UT is a better job than FSU. I guess money talks though.

Lots of current coaches are sure to get pay raises.

I've heard Jimbo doesn't care too much for the FSU admin. Whoever gets that UT job should have a pretty darned good team next year.

UT is on a fiscal ledge that will do long term damage to their program if they do not handle it correctly. The need to hire another up and comer like Dooley and roll the dice until they can get their debt under control.

just my 2 cents though

I think it's possible that feeling is mutual.

And I completely disagree. Dooley cost this program probably $60M with his suckitude through lost attendence and donations, as well as UT's brand.

A boom hire might cost $6M a year vs. the $3M per year average, but they can affect probably 25% of your AD budget, or $25M. That's just spitballing numbers. But a good coach is well worth the dough. That's why there's no question about matching offers even as they keep rising well above inflation.

I think their school had to loan the ath dept money.

No, they just temporary lifted the automatic $6M per year the AD gives the university. While most schools give, few have it "agreed" upon. It's more a donation, which UTAD can still make.

Yeah...this is crunch time for UT. If they don't get this right I can see Tennessee football staying in the dark for a very long time.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Jimbo leaves FSU for UT, but then FSU immediately nabs Gruden?

ya gotta feel sorry for UT fans; embracing a candidate that wasn't going to go there and might not have been worth a shite anyway. gruden is an enigma in pro ball and hasn't coached the college level. UT doesn't need to reach this time around.
