For some unexplained reason, we hadn't been to La Boca in a year or two, although we used to go there quite a lot. So this past weekend my wife and I decided to take another couple there for their first time.

The place is even better than I remember it.

We all tried the tasting menu and it's great bargain at $45 a person.

Bruschetta with smoked drum and sweet onion - really tasty

Combination of chorizo and empanada. - great, especially their chorizo. damned good stuff.

La Boca gnocchi - very rich, but good. one piece is enough

Salad - fresh, interesting but good dressing

THEN, your choice of your steak. They actually give you seven choices in addition to whatever special cuts are available that evening. We went hangar, ribeye, bone in filet (go figure) and I can' remember the other.

All of the meat came out cooked as ordered and was absolutely terrific. Maybe my favorite steak in town.

Plus they came with mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus and french fries. We threw in some grilled brussell sprouts as well.

And then a dessert sampler.

I am definitely not going to wait as long for a return visit.

I'd do anything for their rare skirt steak and a side of provoleta.

Yessir. 45 a head plus drinks and any additions you may want. We had four drinks, a bottle of wine (plus an extra glass) and added an extra side. The total with tax and generous came out to right at 75, I guess.

4 person minimum, though, according to their website. I'm assuming that's still the case?

What am I looking at for two people around Christmas? Thinking this would be a great gift for the wife and I for Christmas. Our schedule is pretty flexible. How is getting reservations on a thurs-sun?

Think so, because that's what makes economic sense for them. But it's entirely possible they won't deny you if there's just two of you. Really, though, four works really well with the sides, etc.

I've only been to LaBoca once, but my experience was great and the food was incredible.

I need to go back.
