Tried searching first

What are your opinions on best place to take the concealed carry class around BR? Basing your opinion on time it took, how informative the teacher was, cost, etc.

Only people/group I know of offering the class at precision and Gordon Hutchinson.

TIA

I took a class from Ernie Gammon Sr in BR.
He is a classy guy.

Google his name and you will find him.

Hell my CCL expires soon. I need to call him too.

Dave Newman
LSP Instructor #530
NRA Instructor #178230429
Certifications:
NRA Basic Pistol
NRA Range Safety Office
NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home
NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home

It is in New Orleans but he's pretty much available anytime unlike Gordon or Precision who are booked until October. The class is extremely personal (I took it with 2 other people) and he's a very good teacher.
NRA First Steps Pistol
NRA Refuse To Be A Victim

Speaking about this topic, which NRA class is the best all around for first-time handgun owners. There are a lot of beginner classes that seem like they would cover the same ground.

Also, are you expected to bring your own firearm to these classes?

Shutter, talk to any of the guys listed in this thread. 99.99% of them are NRA instructors and la State police instructors too.

They have other classes for newbies.

I just got my renewal notice in the mail today. Mine expires in December. Time to schedule a class. My original instructor no longer teaches the course.

There's a reason Gordon's classes are so booked up.

I would try to get scheduled with him, and he can put you on a waiting list if someone cancels on him.

His classes are great, they're only $90, it's a one day thing, and they notarize your documents for you. I haven't seen anything that beats his deal.

I am gonna try and get in on one of Gordon's classes. I wasn't too impressed with my first instructor.

As was noted by EMO40LSU, Gordon teaches good classes. You'd be in good hands with him.

As was noted by Buddy, I also teach CHP classes in Baton Rouge. My classes are different from most of the CHP classes in the area -- some refer to it as "advanced" (although I don't care for that designation). But if you've never shot a handgun before, this isn't the class for you.

To see an outline of topics I cover, plus some info on my background, and some unsolicited feedback from students, visit this website (listed below) and click on pages entitled "Courses," "Credential" and "Testimonials." Personal Defense Training

Edited to add: Firearms are available for student use at no charge (just provide the ammo).
