S+W Walther PPK/S Opinions? (Update Pg. 2)

Reviews seem to be very polarizing about the gun--half of owners bestowing huge respect and the other half calling it junk.
Too much trouble for a novice? Too unreliable for home defense/ccw?

My mom has both of those. She likes the PPS better. It has jammed a few times on her at the range, but this was due to her using really cheap ammo. Feed it right and it's a very good gun.

It was a fine pistol for its time and it will serve you just as fine today. But there are better sidearms available today.

It was a better firearm when it was still Walther.
They are not fun to shoot however. It has a very snappy recoil and it would really dig into the web between thumb and finger.

I've read a lot about "Walther bite." Does Smith and Wesson's extended tang not solve this issue, though?

I have the gun. I like it. I don't carry it and probably never would. It is heavy for a .380.
I have never had a FTF, FTE, etc. Would I trust it as a house gun? Disregarding caliber arguments, yes.
Outside of "biting", it is a pleasure to shoot. The trigger is very crisp and is highly accurate.

Seems like that'd take a lot of the joy out of shooting, though. Have you tried any alternate ways to grip it?

So the initial DA pull isn't that much of a bitch?

Definitely. You only make that mistake once. Lower your grip, unless you have really fat hands.

It is heavy, but is easily remedied by pulling the hammer back. The biggest pain about the gun is racking the slide.
Like I said, I like the gun, but as a novice I would go in another direction.

Do you think the PPK would be more manageable in .32?
What are your thoughts on the Bersa Thunders, CZ83, and Sig P232?

Sig>CZ/PPS>Bersa
Why so set on .380?
There is nothing that is not manageable. There as so many other great guns on the market.
If you want it for nostalgia reasons or for looks, like I did, wait for and keep an eye out for a German made.

Had gotten myself really interested in the PPK. When I read about all of the problems people were having with it, though, the Bersas and Sigs were often mentioned as better alternatives.
I'm a newb to shooting and just thought the .380 would be a good caliber to start out on. And I like the look of a lot of the .380s I've seen.

If you want a .380, get a Ruger LCP. If you want a pistol the size of a PPK, get an XDs.

I'm not as fond of the Ruger's aesthetics as much as the PPK. I would probably just go ahead and look at the Glock 19s in that case.

Sig P232
Out of the ones you listed, this is the best.
I'd recommend an HK P2000 in 9mm

IMO, not really. Ammo is expensive and can sometimes be hard to find.
If you are set on getting a .380. I would buy the Sig and its not even close. Then a German made PPK or PPK/S, then the CZ. There is nothing wrong with the Bersa, but you are already willing to buy a much better quality gun.

Well, I don't know that I'd actually go out and pop for a Sig right out the gate.

I think you will be happy with a Bersa .380.
You lose that style when you move to a 9mm.

I spent a lot money on my first handgun and ended up selling it for a hefty loss.
Just keep an eye on .380 ammo on sale.

Do you intend to use this as a ccw? If so I think function trumps aesthetics.
