Have you digested it and have particular thoughts?

Mine-

Love the opening. RG3 may be Johnny Unitas incarnate but I'll take facing any rookie in his first game.

@ Carolina, Chiefs at home- cannot complain of 2/3 at home against the weaker opponents on the schedule. Starting off good might be even more important with effects of the bountycrap.

@Green Bay, October 7 is still not a terrible weather threat. It went down to the last play last year. Pre-draft I see more personnel improvement here than for Packers. Why not 4-0?

Chargers- first nationally televised game, Brees potentially breaks TD record. Question: who will wanna show up SD more, Brees or Sproles?

I think BYEs are better closer to the middle or just past are preferable but it can be worse than Week 6

Two consecutive road games are always tough but after the BYE is the best time. Sunday night vs. Broncos will be the first Manning vs. Saints rematch. Will Brees pick on Porter knowing him so well?

After 2 road games an extra day off before the Iggles come in for MNF. This is the only 2 game home stand during the season.

Dirty Birds game 1 at home- one thing I don't like is that both ATL games are on short weeks- post MNF & on a Thursday. They play the Cowboys at home the week before this one.

@ Oakland- it's a long trip, there's no telling if the Raiders might be better or worse IMO

49ers at home- this is getting big talk for the rematch and GW's speech. They might continue improvement or the league might have a better gameplan for Harbaugh's 2nd year. The way we lost to Alex Smith going down the field still has me equally disappointed and pissed off 3 months later. This could be an exclamation mark as game #11

Niners are also part of the toughest stretch IMO. Niners home then to hot lanta 4 days later. Call me homer but a sweep of the birds and another disappointing season by them might end the Mike Smith era.

Niners-birds Thursday Night-then at world champion Giants. Some might be awed in fear but our 49-24 shellacking of them in Week 12 is what spurred them to turnaround. December 09 in the Meadowlands weather could be as big of a factor as the Giants team is.

The finale: TB@home, Jerry World, Panthers@home- if needed to decide theNFC South you can't have much better than 2/3 division games at home. Honestly, when I see cowboys in Game 15 my first thought is, oh, they'll be out of it and in disarray by then. I count it a bonus to be able to start and end the season with home games. Panthers fans have to be bitchin having their final game in the dome for the 4th time in 6 years.

PS- only 107 days until we get to watch an actual Saints game!

Openner: agree, rookie quarterback is usually chum for the sharks.

@ Carolina, Chiefs at home
Carolina is going to surprise some people this year I think. Might be a rough one. The Chiefs, I am glad its not in Arrowhead. They always surprise the better opponent there.

@Green Bay

Bring it on! Hopefully the cheeseheads continue their chokefest from the playoff humiliation. We lost too, but they lost by a hell of a margin. Their defense made Eli Manning look like Peyton Manning.

People assume carolina will be good. I think their Defense will improve greatly, but it will be hard for Newton to repeat what he did. Not saying he wont but sophomore slumps are very common at the qb position. Plus having a new d coordinator will greatly benefit us in division.

Sorry for broken reply, I submitted by mistake..

Chargers-
Should be an easy home game. Nice to play them for a change. I will take Breesus showing up to a game over anyone. Except Jesus, he's pretty badass too.

Agree about the Bye, could be week two or something.

quote:

Sunday night vs. Broncos

It's Peyton Manning, but I don't think even he will transform that team unless they fix their Offensive Line. It was pretty bad last year.

quote:

Iggles

Michael Vick is going to run all over us, he's just that good. *sarcasm* Is this the first time Michael Vick has played us in the dome since '06 when he was with ATL?

quote:

Dirty Birds

Think they are going to have a hard time this year, might even take a seat in the #3 divisional seat this year. Definately think the scheduling issue might make the 2nd game close though.

quote:

@ Oakland

Yeah, you never know with them. I think if they fix their defensive problems they will be better than expected this year.

quote:

49ers at home-

Lets hope that Spags has a better scheme to make better use of Jenkins in the deep zone. If we draft another safety perhaps that might give Spags more flexibility with Harper.

I think this is a much harder schedule than last year.
Perhaps with all that is going on the hardest since Payton arrived.
While most team/fans love rookie QB's not me. I hate em. Saints as many here know suck donkey balls vs rookies.
The two short weeks before our 2 games vs atlanta is also truely suck-arse!
I do think as you said Blu the season ends well the last 3 games.

I agree. The worst thing about the regular season was the openning game against the Packers.

I think it is absolutely HUGE that we have a VERY manageable first 3 games. @Carolina is tough as always but I like our shot at 3-0. If we get our feet under us we're going to wreak havoc.

My question is if we're 5-1, 6-0...do we still tinker with the system and put Vitt in charge.

Also, I'm happy that it IS ATL on the short weeks. A lot easier to get up for IMO.

I like having 4 late afternoon games for a change, I wish they would do this every year. Seems like we only have two at the most usually

My attempt at an unbiased prediction of the schedule: Rushed this a bit being at work

WASHINGTON REDSKINS - Really like this as game one. With all the distractions it will be nice to settle in with a team with a rookie QB and is not a serious threat. The Dome will be absolutely insane as well. W 1-0

at Carolina Panthers - I honestly feel that Cam Newton will regress this season, maybe not as bad as Freeman did, but still feel it will happen. This is a team that is on the rise, but also a team that isn't there yet. Carolina as usual plays the Saints tough, but can't quite hang. W 2-0

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - Sub-par opponent number 3 to close out a good start to a schedule. If this were in KC I'd consider it a trap game, but it's in the dome, where this year may be the loudest it has ever been. Potential blowout. W 3-0

at Green Bay Packers- This will be the first true test, and will be a big matchup with both likely being undefeated at the time. Green bay has one of the easiest schedules, but had this game circled. Close game, but GB gets the win in a nail-biter. L 3-1

SAN DIEGO CHARGERS- Prime time game, electric crowd, and a record to break. The Saints come out with a huge chip on their shoulder to prove to the national audience they are still a top contender. Brees and Sproles wreck havoc on their former team, and San Diego leaves embarassed. W 4-1

BYE WEEK Much to the disbelief of the media who counted the team out, they are left somewhat shocked at how this team is sitting so high.

at Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Coming off the bye week the team is rested and hungry. Remembering the loss at Tampa last year the Saints come out fired up in this one to get the win. W 5-1

at Denver Broncos- This game will garner much media buzz. Prime time games in Denver are exciting. Peyton, I believe, will look more like the old Peyton, but the defenses keep the game close. Comes down to a fieldgoal, and Denver gets the win L 5-2

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES 3rd prime time game of the season. Vick is beaten up, and this will be the new Saints Defense' coming out party. Bounce back. dominant game. W 6-2

ATLANTA - What is supposed to be a rivarly game ends up singing the same old song. Saints own the Falcons, and have for some time. Falcons fans weep once again, and we laugh in their faces W 7-2

at Oakland Raiders - Traveling out west is always a pretty tough game. Coming off an emotional game against the Falcons the Saints hit their yearly "lose to a team they shouldn't" game and fall short. L 7-3

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS - This is the game I have marked off as the one I am most excited for. A lot is being made about the 49ers wanting revenge because of the Williams tape, but it will be trumped by the Saints seeking revenge for the playoff loss even more so. There will be serious, serious payback. W 8-3

at Atlanta Falcons - Hate this game, of all teams, to be played on a short week. The Saints will be somewhat drained from the 49ers revenge game and The Falcons steal this one in a close game. L 8-4

at New York Giants - With weather not getting too out of hand, the Saints bounce back. This team has had the Giants number, and I don't see that stopping. W 9-4

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS- It's the start of crunch time, and with a nice string of games to finish with. A dominant performance takes place, and the Saints sweep the Bucs W 10-4

at Dallas Cowboys Same story, different season. Pressure will be on the Cowboys, and as usual, they will choke. The Cowboys, I feel, will have an improvement on last year, but are caught sleeping for this game. Jerry Jones has a near stroke as this game makes winning their division even more difficult in a close race. W 11-4

CAROLINA PANTHERS- Closing out the season with a familiar foe. The fight for the number 1 seed is still up for grabs, and the team comes out swinging to close out the season. The game plays out very similar to last years closer, with a furious offensive performance. However, they needed a GB loss and a W to clinch the #1 seed. GB wins, but the Saints grab a 1st round bye and 2nd seed. W 12-4

Nice assessment but one I do not believe will take place is the Denver game. I do not think PM will be his old self at all. His neck injury will make him more timid and not the PM we have become to know. 13-3 Maybe even the @ Atlanta but the time factor will hurt the Saints.

Nice analysis Loco, but if I had to flip two games I'd say we beat Denver and lose to the Cowboys. Yeah I know, but I always worry about the games against the teams I really hate.

You and Served could both be right. I think there is a good chance the Saints beat Denver. shite, I think there is a good chance the team we watch this year plays to a level we've never seen. I tried to be as realistic as I could. I am confident that this team will come out with a chip on their shoulder. The golden era of Saints football continues this season, with maybe the most important season in the franchise history.

No way I'm gonna be shown up by this newbie.

Here's my prediction.
Oh, and I'm gonna bookmark this thread for when the regular season rolls around.

I'm a little less optimistic, I guess.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS – W - If we don’t win this game, we’re in bad shape. W 1-0

at CAROLINA PANTHERS – W – Tough game against a divisional opponent on the rise, but we pull out a hard-earned win. W 2-0

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS – L – This should be a win, but we lose in typical Saints fashion to a lesser team. Losing Vitt hurts, as well. L 2-1

at GREEN BAY PACKERS - W - I’m predicting a win down to the wire here. The Saints are gonna be throwing everything they have at this team. W 3-1

SAN DIEGO CHARGERS - W - “Prime time game, electric crowd, and a record to break.” Coco’s right. This will be absolute rape. W 4-1

BYE

at TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - W — Moderately difficult win away. W 5-1

at DENVER BRONCOS - L — Vitt's return will cause a bit of a shake up that the team won’t be able to manage right away. Peyton Manning takes the win. L 5-2

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES — W — Vick sucks. W 6-2

ATLANTA – W - There’s no losing to the Falcons in the dome. W 7-2

at OAKLAND RAIDERS – W — By now, we’re settled in with all the coaching changes. We win comfortably against a much weaker opponent. W 7-3

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS – L — I wish I could see us winning this game, but I don’t. Same great coach. Same excellent Defense. New angry, vengeful attitude. L 7-4

at ATLANTA FALCONS – L — The team might as well prepare for this painful loss. A short week, then a trip to Atlanta to play our biggest rivals (probably after already beating them once). L 7-5

at NEW YORK GIANTS – W — I think now we get our ducks in a row. We took two losses in a row. Everyone is counting us out. This is when we start getting hot. Giants get demolished. W 8-5

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - W— I agree that it’s crunch time. The Bucs will hardly be a speedbump. W 9-5

at DALLAS COWBOYS – W - It’s the Cowboys. W 10-5

CAROLINA PANTHERS — W - Cam loses his nerve playing against a team that served up him already. We enter the playoffs white hot. W 11-5

I'll do another one at the end of preseason, and I'll bookmark both threads.

Might make for an interesting comparison.
This year in particular, since we'll go from a Vitt-coached preseason (probably) to 6 games without him.

I actually remember reading that thread before last season. I've came here for Saints news for almost 2 years, just recently decided to start posting.
I'm sure by the time the prediction thread happens I'll have a few changes. Plus, I'll be able to go more in depth with my predictions, which will probably be not so good.
I really just wish I could fast-forward to the season.

This is related, so I didn't want to start a new thread. It's an article from the New York Times about how the NFL creates the schedules for next season. Really interesting read, but one part in particular caught my eye.

Link

They talked about changed that may have caused the committee to shift schedules?

quote:

Nor did the Saints’ recent strife because Katz and his crew think New Orleans will still be a good team without Coach Sean Payton.

Damn, it's a good time to be a Saints fan. I've been watching for a long time, and it's still weird to see statements like that.
