So I watched this over the weekend, and maybe it was due to buzz about it being the biggest Oscar snub of the year, but I really didn't see what was so great about the film. Even the music, which was good at first, started to get on my nerves because the director kept using the same loop from that Real Hero song.

And I like Gosling. He's a good actor. United States of Leland and the Believer are excellent movies. But he's taking the whole silent, distant loner thing too far.

Did most of the Movie/TV board like this movie or not? I didn't think it was anywhere near the quality of Margin Call or Midnight in Paris.

Sweet...is it time for the weekly Drive thread already?

Criticizing the music is a bannable offense on the MTV Board btw...

This, but unlike usual, I agree with the board. Absolute amazing soundtrack.

Are, I loved Drive, but think Midnight in Paris is Terri ly overrated. It was a nice, cute, little film. But it was more whimsy than depth. I forgot about it before I got to my car. Drive still haunts me.

I searched and there weren't any threads on the board. I guess you could send Chicken a threatening email about improving search features on this site

This board is semi divided. One side of the board thinks the movie is amazing because of the imaginary drama and feeling of depth created because Gosling doesn't say a word for most of the film. The other side hates it for the same reason.

I enjoyed the movie probably for the feel of it more than the plot. Music was obviously awesome.

I had a really hard time understanding his character's motivation. So he was a getaway driver but he got pissed at the guy for asking him to do a job?

He had clearly been living his life one way for years and then at the drop of a hat threw everything away for his not-that-attractive neighbor with a kid who he didn't event want to bone?

Also, the conversations were rough. I get that they were trying to make Gosling out as the cool, quiet type but the way he stared at someone after every sentence was weird. No one would tolerate this behavior in the real world.

Aside from all this, I love Ryan Gosling and everything he's ever done and loved this movie.

I've thought a lot about this movie and I think I see why some love it so much but I think that those people are ignoring some real flaws that ruined the movie for a lot of normal movie goers.

Mainly, Gosling's character was over the top in the "silent, distant loner thing" and the pauses and speechless moments between him and other characters were beyond awkward and actually was an annoying distraction for me.

Real Hero song loop was irritatingly repetitive. I don't mind this type of music but mix it up a little and expand your music budget.

A few tweaks and this movie would have been very solid.

Another Drive thread.

Defending this movie is getting tiresome. It's awesome. That is all

the guy didn't approach him the correct way. the first job we see, he tells the guy that he won't be able to reach him on that number again and leaves that cell in the hotel/apt. he just didn't want any attention. is that how you'd go about trying to plan a heist, asking a guy in a semi-busy coffee shop?

He's not doing the "distant loner thing." He's doing the "I'm a fricking sociopath who has no idea how to interact with a normal person" thing. The pauses are supposed to be very awkward. The Driver has to think so hard about what a "normal" person would say or do in "normal" situations, that it takes him a while to formulate his thoughts. It's awkward, and you can see his wheels turning for too long before he acts.

When he almost freaks out on the guy in the coffee shop, that's really him.

That may be like the 15th reason that the movie is good. There are plenty of more reasons to like it than just "Silent and Brooding Ryan Gosling."

Can we all agree to disagree?

They had to keep the real hero, real human being loop going to let you know gosling was in fact a human and not a robot.

dude. I think We Need To Talk About Kevin comes out in DC March 2nd or so. Definitely go see it. I hope its momentum builds in 2012 and becomes this years stylized, unexpectedly successful euro film a la Drive.

Wait, which thread was it that I took this song on? I'm getting pretty mixed up with all these Drive threads

I took my wife to see it for her birthday. I didn't like it, but that was my only option besides Twilight. So I guess I'm glad I went to see it.
