Anyone have interest in a separate contest for ducks?

proposed:

1 point for each duck, under a limit, per day
10 points for a 6 duck limit per day
1 point per goose
0.2 points for pool-deaux, snipe, gallinule (must clean/not waste them, to qualify)
1 bonus point per day for taking a child under 14 (taking with you, not to be included in daily bag limit)
-1 point from a limit for each ringneck, bluebill or common merganser (not hooded)

2 point critter bonus for nutria killed along with ducks
2 point bonus for all drakes in a limit
10 point bonus for a banded bird

Only your birds count

In, but disagree with Dos Gris, they are currently banding more Dos Gris than any other bird right now. We have been killing every one we can legally and have killed 7 banded in the last two years. I hate to think they would "cost" us points.

Ringnecks are fine, people seem to get them confused with Scaup more often than not

Make spoonbills worth -1 also. Does specklebelly season count? If so, I'm expecting to post 2 points Saturday.

Like I said it was proposed.

We usually stay away from the dos gris and ringnecks (unless it's a slow day) for multiple reasons. I don't mind including them. Any other "penalty" ideas? And I won't encourage anyone to mention on here going over the limit

I think it should start now with an impending season and allowing all to takes pics of the kills

I understand the dogris and spoonbill but a ringneck is a dam fine duck

We don't have too many of those in NE LA so I can't really have a say, but spoonies are trash ducks.

I completely agree rignecks are fine ducks. Remove penalty please. Also consider .5 bonus for using whole plucked or skinned vs just breasting them.

And if yall think the SE is at a disadvantage try duck hunting without water here in TX

Depends on the bird. I'm not wasting time tearing down a bluewing/greenwing vs just breasting them.

ETA: +1 point for killing the ducks on public property. Putting up with that shite deserves some respect.

We don't have hardly water in Kansas at all either. One of the worst droughts in the last 25 years. Don't know why anyone would try to get an edge in this but how would you make sure pictures are from this year.

I read an article in Delta Waterfowl that basically said:

- The prairie region where ducks start have gone through a lot of flooding (midwest floods from earlier this year). This is considered 'bad' by most hunters because the traditional pot holes which they are accustomed to hunting by (or even the larger bodies of water) will have some ducks earlier in the season, but will find alternative holes now filled with water after they are pressured.
- The southern regions (in LA, MS, TX) have not gotten a lot of water this year (besides the marsh areas and delta region where the MS river feeds)... and the areas with rice, etc that depend on natural rain will struggle.

Not sure where Kansas falls in all of this, but this is all to say that duck hunting everywhere in the central flyways is going to look different for everyone.
