David is the son of former LSU star basketball player Derrick Taylor. It appears he is the equivalant of a high school sophomore in Germany. Will be interesting to see if he develops into a major prospect and if LSU recruits him.

David Taylor – 1m88 – Point Guard – 1995 – BBC Bayreuth
BODY/ATHLETICISM: Taylor has good size and strength for a PG at the U16 level. Has a cut physique and is very fit, being able to pressure full court on defense throughout the entire game. Has an upper body that he can add strength to quite easily and is a good athlete with quick feet and explosiveness.
SHOOTING: Has good form on his jump shot with a nice follow-through, although he doesn’t use his legs enough and tends to use too much arm creating a flat shot. Needs to get his release point higher and get more arc on his shot. When playing off the ball he sets his feet well and is ready for the pass in a catch and shoot situation and has a relatively quick release. Showed the ability to come off the ball screen and pull-up in the paint for a jumper with good footwork but needs to work on his consistency as he only shot 4/12 from the field during both games. Has range out to 23 feet and is not hesitant to pull the trigger from deep.
POSITION OFFENSE: Has a tight handle and controls the ball well both in the halfcourt and in transition. Taylor comes off ball screens aggressively and is looking to attack the basket or penetrate and pass to an open teammate. Has good vision and will hit the open man at the right time. Has very good quickness both with and without the ball but doesn’t always use this to his advantage, over dribbling at times and turning the ball over. Had 12 turnovers in 2 games. Once he gets in the lane he needs to learn when to shoot a floater or attack the basket, and when to pull the ball back out and not force the play. If he can gain consistency on his jump-shot and minimize his turnovers he will be a very hard cover for any opposing PG to contain.
DEFENSE/REBOUNDING: Posses quick feet on defense and combined with his upper-body strength is able to get up and in to the opposing guards and pressure the ball full-court. Is active off the ball on defense and uses his quickness to get in the passing lanes, averaging 4.5 spg against Greece and Spain. Is a decent rebounder for his size and position with 3 per game. If he can continue to work on improving his defense he could become a very good defender at the next level and beyond, but he cant afford to take plays off.
MISCELLANEOUS: Doesn’t show much leadership skills on the court and this is something he needs to improve being a PG. Taylor has a lot of natural talent and good court awareness but needs to play consistently hard every possession and not only for short periods.
OVERALL RATING: 7 – If Taylor can continue to develop his PG skills, make his jump-shot more consistent and be a lock down defender he has the chance to play at a high level in Europe in the years to come. Has good potential for the future.

Interesting. I wonder how his game would transition to playing in college in the US.
How many Europeans come over and play college basketball anyway?

He's young, so who knows. That website has some good links to lists of past and present Euros in the NCAA.

so he's what about 6'3? finally wouldn't be a short arse PG.
if he plays like a drazen petrovic, we'll be ok

my guess, tremendously fundamentally sound, good shooter, great ball-handling.

Kudos to whoever runs that site. That is a very detailed, in-depth scouting report.

Sometimes I get my head out of Trent Johnson's arse long enough to post something halfway readable.

No I just think we have different views of Trent and the progress he has made and is making. You do a very good job of presenting your view I just happen to passionately disagree based on my knowledge of basketball and what I have seen on the court.
We wont know till after next season whether your view or mine turns out to prevail but I have always believed 2 intelligent people can look at the same situation and come to a different conclusion. Just have to agree to disagree!

My main issue is that I don't think the recruiting board should be used as a forum for coach bashing. That should be on the Rant.

Amen, Brother.

If he is anywhere like his dad book him. We wouldn't have made the FF in Dallas in 86 without his play.

Did a little more research and talked by e-mail to the guy that runs europeanprospects.com. He said Taylor is definitely a PG, and projects to be a 2013 recruit. He said he is a top 10 guard in Europe in his age group and projects to be a high major NCAA recruit. He didn't have any recruiting information on him at this point. Hopefully this is accurate and LSU lands him.

Did you get the impression that he was going to college?

Georgia Tech had some guy last year whose dad is a legend in the Philippines. He ended up reneging on his LOI to GT and is going to play pro ball there, instead. It's always a risk with European players.
And then you have guys like Kilicli, who want to come here and actually haven't been paid, but have broken obscure NCAA rules that make no sense.

Is it a little shocking that not many of the elite recruits are considering going the 'Brandon Jennings' route (if they could)?

Most of the guys who would flourish in a European system (adapting to the language, intense coaching, tactical emphasis) are guys with positive attitudes and solid grades being recruited by the blue bloods.
The guys who will consider going to Europe are often the guys with shitty grades and attitudes, plus eligibility concerns, like Jeremy Tyler. They are also far more likely to bust over there, and the shoe companies will let them know that. I think that is why Aquille Carr didn't drop out after his junior year and go to Italy.
ETA: I don't think Jennings was a complete success in Italy, but he fits in a very rare sub-section. How many guys are very stupid when it comes to academics (can't even get a 2.5 in the Los Angeles public school system/basketball prep schools and an 800 SAT), but extremely coachable, have positive attitudes, don't blow their paychecks on cars, and work hard on the court?
