Tailgating Etiquette

I've never been a tailgater-setter-upper, but I might do it this year. I don't want to set up in some ole-timers spot, but I'd like to get somewhat near the stadium.
How do I accomplish this, yet not piss someone off?
Thanks

When we're in town we tailgate by Pleasant Hall. I like it over there and people don't "have said claim" over that area like some do on various spots on campus.

you and your location name kind of creep me out...

Tailgating spots open up for the taking at 4:30PM Friday. Go there and pick any place out.
To give you an example. My father had a parking pass with a small grass strip behind it. Now, that pass gauranteed the cement parking space, but not the small strip of grass behind it. Therefore, for really big games, my father would have me go to the grass strip at his parking spot on Friday at 4:30PM and rope it off so that no one else would be there. Once the rope was up, one one ever bothered it.
One time we didn't do that, and some people were already there. It was no big deal, we tailgated with them, but he didn't want people he didn't know there tailgating with us when he was entertaining customers.
That "old timer" knows for the Florida game, if he wants his spot he better have it roped off Friday by 5PM.

Our tents are up by 4pm Friday. We've been in the same spot for 3 years now...

so on day 1, was there any drama with you taking someoneelses spot?
Posted on 4/19/09 at 7:58 pm to Dodd
No, if there is, then the people causing the drama don't know how to tailgate at LSU.
Don't forget, you're not "taking" someone elses spot if you were there first. They would be trying to take your spot if they messed wiht your tents which were there before the other people got there.

yea, and anyone who gets pissy because you took "their spot" is a loser

We started our tailgate last year and dealt with kind of the same problem. We took a place near the Union and it was obviously a place where 1 person had been for awhile because the next week they had it setup before we got there on Friday. We could have gone back and forth like that for awhile but we just setup in a similar spot right next to it and had no problems for the rest of the year.

I don't think our spot was ever used by the same people each week. It's basically "ours".

we set up last year on the parade grounds and never had a problem. of course we also pretty much setup around 4 or so on friday.

Weve taligated in the smae spot for about 7-8 yrs.
One game last season some people put their tent up in our spot.
I wasnt an arse about it, we scooted over.
We went out fri afternoon to set up and the dude beat us there. Bad thing about it was he didnt show up till around noon, came over picked his tent up and left,, I went to talk to him but apparently he was pissed off enough.
Then for the bama game some idiots did the same thing.
We moved their shite, and they too show up around 12 oclock.
We were there fri evening about 430 and they had already put their shite up. Awesome looking Liv parish crew of about 6-7 people.
Dont take someone's spot is the rule here.
I dont care what some of these people are telling you.
IF you are cool about it they'll probably make room for you.
Key word here

I hate the people who show up at noon for a 2:30 game. Even worse when they put 4 cars out in the nearest lot...

Yeah, my family has had season tickets for a long time, but the last two years really didn't use them much due to some major issues. Last year, was the first time we consistanly used our passes so it was basically like they were new. A buddy works at LSU and his employee tag is the same as our Lot so he just pulled in at 7:30 am and switched the tags at 4:30. The next day at 7 am for the Appy game some DB tried to give me hard time for being in his spot. I polietly told him to to GFH and offered him a beer. The same shite happend for NT. He was a douche all year but what can you do?
