Will be looking into buying a zero turn in the near future. Any advice or suggestions? Looking for something around 48-52" for two acres. Pretty wide open area with few obstacles. Scag, Deere, Exmark, etc. Thoughts? Around 5k.

I had a 50" Cub Cadet and loved it. Never let me down but I'm kinda anal about maintenance and taking care of things.

I always had good success with Scag, no problems with Ex-mark but i only owned one. It was not as heavy duty as the Scags

Thoughts on freedom vs liberty?

If it's just strictly residential use, just get the most reasonably priced. I liked the scag better because I was cutting a ton of properties including Jeff parish water department properties, so I liked the heavy duty scag better

Get something with a reliable engine and commercial deck. The rest is optional.

I had to look up freedom and liberty lol. I had turf tigers, and this was pre Katrina. I had Koehler engines and put em thru the paces.

All three make shitty mowers and good ones.. main thing is which one has better customer service in you area. Or basically how far is it and how are the people you will be dealing with when you need to have it serviced or need blades/parts. I have have an exmark lazer z and cut about ten yards on the side. I bought it because of the location of the the dealer to where I live and I can tell you I have no regrets. But if the same guy was in the same location and sold scag I would be running a scag. Deere is over priced but still a good machine if you buy commercial. Their residential is crap just like most others.. Exmark came out with a new one last year that is between a residential and commercial.. I’ve heard good things from my guy about it.its called The exmark radius

I have a Kubota 1211 Diesel 72” cut and it is an absolute beast. I bought the Diesel because my tractors are diesel and I have a 400 gallon skid tank. I’ll probably not buy another mower in my lifetime. I’m cutting probably 3-4 acres I guess.

Find one with dealer that will service what they sell.
JD overpriced for what you get.
You can get buy with residential series which you might get 4 yrs to 6yrs out of one. Depends on grass and yard smooth or rough. Smooth yard most anything will last. Rough spend alittle more and $3k to $4,500 you can find a decent unit in most brands which are called prosumer line versus a residential line.

Everyone around here loves the Hustler Raptor. I’ve looked into it and it seems like a decent machine well suited for residential

Get a commercial grade one from a dealer. Not too much more expensive, but way better made.

I have a 48 in Hustler Fastrak that I cut 2 acres with. Great machine. I would suggest call around dealer to see if they have any trade-ins. You can usually find a great deal on them. I bought mine as a demo with less than 50 hours on it for about half the price of a brand new one.

I bought the Raptor limited 2 years ago. Limited has upgraded seat and tires. Its okay. Rattles pretty bad and will beat the ever loving hell outta you. But it cuts fine and has good power.

Ariens came out with a $3k mower about 4 months after i bought mine. Thats what i would've bought had it been available at the time. Ikon i think. My FIL bought one and it seems like a better mower than the Hustler.

I was in the same boat about 3 years ago.
Budget was around $5k and I cut 2.59 acres.

After a lot of research I stepped up my price just a little bit and bought a Ferris IS700Z with a 52" deck.

When you compare the $5000 mowers with the $7000-$8000 mowers the Ferris has most of the upgraded features and comes in just over $6000. I thought it was a nice value.

Better Engine
Better Pumps
Faster Speed (10mph vs. 7mph in most)
Better deck
Suspension system
