As the oldest grandson I got my paw paws rifle over 30 years ago, I have never used it. I’m about ready to give it to my son who has the oldest grandson so it can be his in a few years. Anybody have one, is it a good gun to keep in the family? It shoots the 22 mag so it’s around 60 years old.

All guns are good guns to keep in the family.

I don't have any info on the Model 61, but my brothers and I learned to shoot with my Paw Paw's old Remington Model 121 (I believe). My brother has it now and I always loved the pump .22's.

I have one from my dad, fairly certain its from the late 30's. I like it because it can shoot shorts to LR. I can't shoot .22 mags though. It's an awesome gun.

def worth having and I think should be fairly valuable both in dollars(i think they go for $800-900+ but not totally up on that) and sentiment(only you can measure that). They also came in a .22 smooth bore for shooting the 22 shotshells. It was also chambered in the .22WRF which have an octagon barrel instead of round. The .22 magnum chamber is pretty rare for it too I believe as it was only offered in the last couple years it was produced(1961-62 or so i think) so while the magnums were made later they werent made for long and there arent many of them so may be worth even more?

Here's what my Blue Book says. Not that it matters considering it was paw-paws gun and therefore you should NEVER get rid of it.
Hope this is the right model without looking at the gun.

Model 61- Magnum
Manufactured 1959-1961
100% Mint- $2525
60%- $875
10%- $375

If it has "WMRF" stamp on the barrel add $600-$1000.

If its an octagon barrel, pretty much double the values above.

I have 2 of them, but they are the 62A I believe? The one with the hammer. both 22's and one each from each grandpa.

I caught my delinquent half brother wanting to saw the handle and barrel off of one and I quickly hid it stashed in in my dorm room and carried it when I moved, Its in the safe now. Teh 2nd one is sitting in New Iberia waiting for me to make a family visit and pick them up along with his Model 12 16G Shot a shite ton of 22's out of it.

Great plinking rifles. and the one I have you can hold the trigger and just jack the pump and unload 10-12 round really fast.

But as mentioned above all guns handed down are items to keep, no matter the condition. Buy a bigger safe if needed
