I've watched a couple of videos and all of them say to unplug the battery and not to start the vehicle. I'm wanting to remove the seats so I can fit more shite in it for a 10 day hunting trip. It should just be a sensor in the seat that turns the airbag on/off. I haven't found much on it on google. I don't want to pull the seat and have an airbag deploy.

just buckle the seat belt. problem solved in 5 secs. removing it sounds like a PITA. And I dont see where the space is that much more without one

Does the Highlander have a tow hitch? Maybe an luggage rack on the back to add some additional space.

I plan on putting an ice chest there. probably not much but any bit will help since i'm probably sleeping in the back.

I think there is a process to follow to disable the airbag trigger.

I had to lean the seat back in my Sequoia to access the radio amplifier. It went out and had to be replaced.

Instructions said to unplug the battery and then unplug the seat sensor.

I never tried to crank it while it was unplugged though.

I’m not sure if it will or not but make sure you video the removal just in case it does trigger it.

Of course, I'm a huge fan of self defecating humor. I'd make sure to post it.

I guess I hit submit earlier without meaning to. Meant to also say that I did this in an old Jeep I had, and the instructions were something about disconnecting a battery cable, removing the sensor, etc. It worked fine, and I was in a similar situation needing the floor space for hauling tools on a trip. I took out my backseat and my passenger seat. It was an old 2 door Wrangler, and once that was out I had plenty of room.

If you start car without the seat sensor plugged in you will prob get an airbag warning light on dash. There’s probably a reset process to get the light to turn off after replacing the seat. I do not think staring car without seat would deploy it, just give you a dash warning light.

That's what I figured. All of the legit mechanic youtubes caution to disconnect battery for 15 minutes before unplugging the wire. There's videos of Mexicans doing it saying eyyyy to hell with that
