Any suggestions on a book that you carry for wild edibles?

Bets thing in the wild to find and eat is a mushroom with a purple ring around the stem. You won’t even worry about anymore food after a couple of them

Idk if it's pocket sized but I've had "Southeast Foraging: 120 Wild and Flavorful Edibles from Angelica to Wild Plums (Regional Foraging Series)" in my Amazon cart for a while.

I don't know of many true "field guides" for wild edibles, but Dr. Charles Allen has one specific to the gulf coast region--Edible Plants of the Gulf South.

He also offers workshops on edible plant ID.

Euell Gibbons, wasn't he the guy that died when Dutch Elm Disease first spread across the country?

Edible Wild Plants: Wild Foods From Dirt To Plate is a really good wild plant identification book that has a chapter for each edible wild plant that you are likely to find in your backyard or in the wild including good illustrations of the plants, how to prepare recipes, and nutrient charts.

Here's a book review of this book.

no idea how he died,

I just remember him in cereal commercials where he would start out saying that parts of pine trees are edible

There’s edible and then there’s tasty. Fwiw there’s not a lot of plants that taste good that people don’t know about. There’s some berries, mushrooms, heart of palm, etc. but beyond that it’s fairly slim pickings.

Agree, Dr. Allen's book is great and he is a fantastic person. He also has a B&B on his property and a great conversationalist.

I think he died from someone he ate.

NV, I was thinking of another naturalist who's wife shot him.
