PSA daily emails need to be stopped. Very very dangerous to man's bank account.

Magpul mags=10
100rd of soft points
500rds of the cheapest brass case ammo you can find
20 rd of hollow points
If you use more than the soft points in the house and burn through the 500 use the hollow points to coup de gras your family and yourself cus the end is here!!!

Pmags are great as are aluminum GI mags. Some other polymer mags are not so good. Expect to pay $10-14 per mag. Regarding ammo I like to stay with the 55 gr fmj for my bulk purchases. Much more effective than the 62 gr green tip ammo. But I suggest you buy your ammo very soon. Prices going up sharply and availability going down fast. Expect to pay $500-600 per 1000 rds and most definitely stay away from any steel case ammo

300 is a bigger bullet (7.62mm) vs 223 (5.56mm)
that was a short paragraph

223/5.56 normally shoots a 55-77 grain .223 in diameter bullet at 2500-3200 fps. It was our standard military round since Vietnam.

300 B/O uses the same case but is shortened and neck expanded to shoot a .308 inch bullet, normally 110-150 gr for supersonic and 200-220 gr for subsonic rounds. It essentially was an attempt to duplicate the ballistics of the AK 47 round 7.62x39 but in an AR compatible format. It is much better for deer than the 5.56 since you can shoot a 125 gr bullet around 2200 fps or so.

Since it basically used the same case as the 223/5.56 you can use the same bolt and magazines for both cartridges (223/5.56 and 300 BO). Works great as a subsonic round with a suppressor

With these mags would I only buy 5.56 rounds?

They’ll work with 5.56 or 300 BLK. Just be sure to mark the mags if you end up with an AR in both calibers, for obvious reasons.

I have both the AR-15 and Mini-14. I love them both and just as accurate with both. If you had an older model, the barrel can whip when it gets hot which was the accuracy problem. They fixed that in the 80s. Plus you can mount a strut under the barrel if you want to make sure.

Garand Thumb showed that the mini-14 is just as accurate as well. At least I think it was Garand. Been a while but he was popping accurate shots at 300-400 yards.

With the PSA AR-15 can I shoot .223 and 5.56 rounds using a 5.56 magazine?

223 and 5.56 mm are essentially the same. 5.56 just loaded to a little higher pressure and chamber has a slightly longer throat but for all intents they are the same

I can’t believe no one has commented that your wife has to clear it for you to buy a gun.
Times are changing I guess.
Y'know, I get what you're saying, but I think you are reading the situation wrong.

OP wasn't "cleared" to get a gun, he was DIRECTED to GET AN AR to protect her.

People are stressed in the world, and the media is making it worse. OP's wife isn't the only woman who's worried about things.
I have a few ARs, my son and I like to put them together together. My ex knows this. The other day, she asked me what SHE would need, and if we could guide her/build her one. She has a couple pistols, but she wants an AR now because of the unrest.

I'm leaning towards a lightweight carbine, with a shake-awake red dot and maybe a light. I laughingly said I could build her a pink one, and she said no, she wants something discreet and serious, and functional.

It has an RMR cut. Forward rear sight wouldn’t be that bad.

Yes. "Standard" AR's shoot 5.56 or .223

Ummmmmm, well, yeah chambered in Wylde but ... do you really want to run .223 in your AR or wouldn't it be better to concentrate on surplus 5.56?

I mean there is a difference, not only ballistically speaking but also , in brass thickness and case life.

You haven't lived until you've had to get a stuck .223 case out of a chamber with the case having had the base and rim ripped out by the AR's ejector.

Look for a Wylde chambered AR and shoot both but ... stick with 5.56. Save the .223 for .223 specific bolties or other varmint specific sticks.

I have not decided on which AR-15 to buy yet. I will also need to get a few magazines, a red dot and some ammo. I could get the ammo from Bass Pro which has it on sale.
