Why did auto makers eliminate transmission dipsticks?

Had the hood up on my 2022 Chevy Silverado today and noticed there is not a dipstick to check the transmission! Pulled owners manual and sure enough, it says there’s no dipstick, GM no longer trusts it’s buyers to check fluids and owners will be required to take vehicles in to have transmission fluid checked?
Are any owners of other brands seeing these kinds of changes?

Pretty common these days. Transmissions are being filled with "lifetime" synthetic fluids and sealed. Toyota has been doing it for quite a while now I believe.

Be like the 99% of the population who owns one and don't worry about it. The majority of people buying that truck will never pay it off, much less wear a transmission out. Drive it till it breaks and repair it.

I've been told its because people were screwing up when checking and then adding too much. Not level, not warmed up ect. Probably save $5 on eliminating a dipstick/diptube as well.

GM transmissions are broken when they come off the lot. Company got 5 Silverados in 2019 and everyone has had transmission problems within the first 6 months. I’m putting mine in the shop for the fourth time in two years.

Yeah, how about the OP do something intelligent instead. There may not be a dipstick but there is probably a fill plug somewhere along horizontal surface above the transmission pan rail. Probably were the dipstick would have been before. You can remove that plug and either use an oil evacuator or drop/drain from the pan and refill through that plug port with a manual pump. Whatever you do is worthwhile, there's no such thing as a "fill for life" transmission and every fullsize truck needs a fluid service around 20k to 30k miles. Newer 8, 10-speed transmissions are less forgiving of fluid additive package depletion too, pays to put in fresh fluid when possible.

That's a bit premature in reality.

To be fair, I don't think these trannys are holding up long enough to make it to the 50-80k fluid re-fresh.

I'm holding onto my 4spd w/overdrive as long as I can.

I've been told by Toyota and Lexus service techs that the company considers a sealed automatic transmission a "lifetime" part.

Drained and filled my '18 Tacoma with fresh ATF. I should have done it sooner since it was a 1/4 quart underfilled from the factory and at 60k miles, it was more brown than red. I'd probably drop my pan next go around and clean the magnets.
