Im not much on getting shite shipped around and worked on. I dont know that id notice the difference all that much anyway. Im coming from an M9 which has the worst trigger ive ever felt in my life. Im sure the worst 229 trigger out there has to be better

I have one without the rail in .40, bought the .357 Sig barrel and essentially have 2 guns. I prefer shooting the .357 Sig from that rig. If I could buy it again I’d get it in 9mm.

I have a couple handguns with a rail and have never attached anything to said rail.

If you go .357 then you can always add a .40 barrel if you wanted that dual caliber swap ability

I agree, if you're going to get one dead caliber, you might as well double down and get the next worse thing too. jk jk

But, there is some solace that MecGar also makes the factory magazines for Sig. So, if you're going to get aftermarket mags for any gun, I think the company that also makes the factory mags is the absolute best option.

If you just want a 9mm and you don't need a rail I found I prefer the p228 over the p229. Same length, width, and height. There is a 3oz weight difference in the slide and that is easily felt with them side by side. A 9mm round is around 1/2oz so grab 6x 9mm rounds and that's the weight difference. I haven't picked up a p229 in 10+ years so I dont' know if the newer P229's are different than the one I held.

Ah yes... because the only real answer is a 9mm. I guess the only real gun worth owning is a Glock? Look Pops... I mean Props, everyone has a personal preference and some may opt for a 9mm because of the cost of ammo. I was simply stating an option of having two calibers with one slide.

Ordered a p229 legion in 357 sig this morning.

Ill admit i had my mind about 90% made up when i started this thread

Supposedly the new 229 "compacts" are better carry guns than the originals were. We'll see. Ill be the OB guinea pig.

Are they different actual dimensions, slimmer profile or just lighter?

I have a newer P226 with the E2 grips and an older Exeter P229 with the classic, 2-screw ( ) grips. Other than slide/grip length, those guns are very similar in weight, bulk, etc. I also have P245 (precursor to the P220 "compact" or "carry", but made in Germany, also ) - and it would carry better than either because it is single stack and a slightly shorter grip length, although the slide is a tad longer than the P229.

I have the P229 Elite Dark. I think that is the right name, it is hard to keep SIG's crazy naming schemes straight.

Anyway, I have both the .40 and .357 sig barrel that you can just swap out. It has the accessory rail and I have an MX-6 laser/light combo that stays on it.

First, this is not a light handgun. Loaded up, it is heavy and isn't what I would call a carry gun. That goes both ways of course, because you can tell the build quality in this predominantly steel handgun. If you run out of rounds in your double stack mag, you can certainly beat a bad guy to death with it because it is plenty heavy.

Now, even though it is large and heavy it fits my hand far better than any other handgun I own. It really fits and it shoots great and does not have any significant snap like a glock, even shooting the hot .357 sig rounds.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of them, just go with the one you like. It isn't like you will lose your money on any firearms purchase anyway.

Yea, I've gone through a few boxes. It's always performed perfectly and it's still easy to track. I keep a log for my gun after the day is done, IDK why. Bought one of these and keep it in my hard case.

Deore got it right !
Find you a west German p228 and you won’t tevret it. Gun broker always has a few. Built for 9mm and perfect in every way and is why special ops and Govt carriers a 228. Don’t need a rail.
